The Eye under the Light

I drew this because I hadn't practiced for a long time. I forced myself to draw. Anything! Even the simplest drawing will do. The first image I got was Heiji Hattori with his trade-mark cap.

For cool effect, only one eye can be seen.
For cooler effect, he is wearing a coat with high neckline.
For even cooler effect, he is in the dark so that his eye "glows".

And there you go! He looks more like a spy than a detective. "Why not?" I thought. I added a lamp post behind him, modified the cap into a furry cap, and I got my spy. Not the best look of a spy, but it was enough — for this time.

Note:
Heiji Hattori is a character from the manga Detective Conan by Aoyama Gosho.

I finished the sketch in no more than 2 days, but the rendering took me almost a month. I was too lazy to do it ^^;;

The hard parts were the fur(!), the lamp post, and the background. You can see that I finished the background half-heartedly.
Dimension: 15.8 x 21.2 cm
Paper: thin drawing book page
Pencils: 2B only! ^^ (genuine and mechanical)
Work duration: more than a month ^^;
Date finished: 30 August 2001

Edit 1 November 2002:
As I felt it is rather unfair to show such a small thumbnail, I added a bigger version of the picture. Just click on the middle thumbnail to view.
As a side note, I once found one of my drawings in a completely unknown website. My first case of stolen picture. I didn't want this happen again, so I gave tiny thumbnails. Hopefully noone wants to steal my pictures this time.
