Machida Ayaka

The first picture for the year 2004 is from the anime I watched during the December holiday: Uchuu no Stellvia (translated as Stellvia of the Universe). If you want to know more about it but cannot read Japanese, then Google it :D
I somehow found Stellvia interesting. If you are interested in space-based story, I recommend this anime. It has a different taste from the usual space animes because the way human technology worked was really based on human knowledge, instead of the usual magical, semi-magical, or alien-based knowledge.

One kind of the technology in Stellvia is the so-called "Direct Link System" (DLS). The description given in the anime is, of course, sketchy. From what I can understand, it was an interface to pilot a spaceship. The appearance was a head-mounted display, as you can see on the picture below. Of course, the design was made to look cool. And after watching those characters wearing it, I think it does look cool =p

The character I drew is Machida Ayaka. She was a student in the space academy of Stellvia, one of the space stations in the anime. She was exceptionally talented in piloting and well aware of this fact. She held this status of being a superior pilot so dearly that she was willing to willing to hurt other students with similar talent to hers. This jealosy might be what made me "fall for her" and decide to draw her instead of any other characters.

To be complete, I drew this only for fun, to show to myself that I could still draw after the holiday. There is really nothing special about the way I drew the picture.
