During the French occupation of Egypt at the end of the eighteenth century the first accurate maps were made of archaeological sites and precise drawings recorded many of the antiquities. The Sacred Lake in the Mut Precinct in this map is shown as almost dry. The three major temples are almost obscured by earth but the general layout is accurate. The procession way from the Precinct of Amun and the right-angle turn it makes at the entrance to the Precinct of Mut is clearly indicated. |
| From the Precinct of the Goddess Mut only two statues were illustrated in the great Description of Egypt, the twenty-four volume French publication. They are both still in situ. The head and left arm from the largest is in the British Museum, taken away by Giovanni Belzoni early in the nineteenth century. |
