Registration

Most members register prior to the convention date. For those who have not had this opportunity, tickets will be sold at the conference check-in area at the La Crosse Center’s south entrance. Admission is $15.00 in advance of the conference (postmarked by February 5) or $20.00 at the door. Please make checks payable to WWEC and mail to: WWEC, 205 S. 5th Avenue, Suite 412, La Crosse, WI 54601.
Questions? Call (608) 796-0355.

Registration procedures vary by districts. Some districts register each teacher and paraprofessional automatically. In others, the school’s education association forwards the conference fee. Sometimes the building’s association rep will collect personal checks from those attending. In other cases, educators mail in their own registration forms. If you’re not sure about your school’s procedures, ask your principal or building association representative. Booklets and tickets will be sent after registration fees are received.

Students/Student Teachers

Full-time University students are admitted at the reduced fee of $5.00. Student tickets are purchased at the door. No advance registration. Students receive their conference booklets the day of the WWEC. They may receive a conference booklet in advance by sending a self-addressed, stamped (60 cents postage) business size envelope to the Conference Coordinator at 205 S. 5th Ave., Suite 412, La Crosse, WI 54601.

Retired Teachers

Retired teachers are admitted to the conference free of charge. Retired teachers who are members of CRUE Retired will be printed on a list provided to the ticket gate workers at the conference. Retired teachers who are members of NEA Retired or WREA Retired may present their membership card at the entrance. Other retired teachers may get a lifetime conference member pass by writing the conference coordinator at 205 S. 5th Avenue, Suite 412, La Crosse, WI 54601.

Paraprofessionals

The Wisconsin Paraprofessional Training Initiative Grant, sponsored by the Department of Public Instruction and facilitated through CESA #4 is providing financial support to the WWEC for this year’s conference. Paraprofessionals throughout the state are invited to attend. Please note throughout the session descriptions the designation that the session would be helpful to paraprofessionals.

Graduate Credit Option - only $80!

Viterbo University is offering the option of earning one graduate credit for taking part at the WWEC. The course, Teaching: A Commitment to a Hopeful Future, requires a full day of participation at the WWEC as well as attendance at a course session held at Viterbo (date and times TBA). Course assignments will be available at Viterbo University’s WWEC exhibit booth and can be picked up at 8 a.m. on the day of the conference (February 16, 2007). The cost for enrolling in this one credit course is $80. (A conference admission ticket is also required.) To reserve your space and for additional information about the graduate credit option, contact John Schroeder at jrschroeder@viterbo.edu.

Parking

We will be using the Second Street entrance at the south end of the La Crosse Center (the entrance for the new addition). There are two parking lots and one parking ramp near the corner of Jay Street and Second Street, across the street from the South entrance. There are additional free parking ramps within walking distance of the La Crosse Center. Please observe all parking signs and regulations.

Weather Policy

The WWEC Conference is never canceled due to inclement weather, under any circumstances. If speakers believe that the weather is too severe to travel to the conference location, they have the option of not attending the conference, but will not be paid for their session. There are no refunds made to WWEC participants under any circumstances.

Hospitality Suite

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Alumni Association is hosting a Hospitality Suite in Room 11. Alumni and friends are welcome to stop in and visit with UW-La Crosse representatives.

Message Board

A message board will be located in the hallway, just outside from the WWEC headquarters, near the south entrance. Please feel free to post communications there. Any phone messages received will also be posted
there. It is not possible to page teachers at the conference.

Exhibits

At the end of this booklet, you will find a list of companies invited to exhibit school services and supplies. Your Board of Directors urges you to spend time browsing through the exhibits. Additional time has been scheduled after the morning keynote speaker and between sessions to allow more time in the exhibit area. Exhibits are in the La Crosse Center Arena. Many exhibits have “cash & carry” items. Exhibitors are asked to stay until 1:45 p.m.

Accessibility

The La Crosse Center is an accessible facility. If there is a need for any further questions about accessibility, please contact the Conference Coordinator at (608) 796-0355 and arrangements will be made. WWEC will make all attempts to have this convention accessible to all of its members.

Ballot Information

A ballot box will be provided near the entrance to the South Hall for the purpose of electing a new member to the WWEC Board of Directors. Please place your ballot (printed on your ticket stub) in the box before 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 16, 2007. Write-in votes are encouraged. If you are interested in serving on the WWEC Board, please contact one of our board members.

Entertainment

The Drum Club from Logan High School will perform under the leadership of Mary Ender Stutesman, vocal music teacher at Logan High School. They will play various rhythms from West Africa (and our own creativity) using authentic djembe drums and other instruments from the African continent. The performance will be located outside of the South Hall entrance area from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. If you would like the WWEC to consider your school’s performers for showcasing at next year’s convention, please contact the conference coordinator by May 1, 2007 at (608) 796-0355.
