Mairi's Wedding

traditional Irish tune

Kestrel's House of Poetry and Song brings you an Irish tune from the vast collection.
It is unknown when it was written. It can be performed to the Gey Gordon music.
The music that the Chieftan's used is very similar.

Chorus;
Step ye gaily, on we go
Heel and heel and toe for toe,
Arm in arm and row and row
All for Mairi's wedding.

Over hillways up and down
Myrtle green and bracken brown,
Past the sheilings through the town
All for the sake of Mairi

Chorus;

Cheeks as bright as Rowans are
Bright her eyes as any star,
Fairest of them all by far
Is our darlin' Mairi

Chorus;

Plenty herring, plenty meal
Plenty peat to fill her creel,
Plenty bonny bairns as well
That's the toast for Mairi.

Chorus;

Dilestair fid dy hynt, ac ni rusia ddim rhagot.
"May your path be unhindered and may nothing hinder you."
