Moosup Lodge held its first annual Bass Tournament on Pauchaug Pond in Glasgo, CT in August 1999. All the participants praised the tournament as one of the best they had had the opportunity to fish in all year. Fisherman were fed a complete breakfast with coffee and beverages before heading out for a day of fishing, and Moosup Lodge returned a generous 85% of the purse to the fishermen.

The eventual tournament winners landed one last fish within sight of the boat ramp as they waited to weigh in; a fish that won the lunker pool and catapulted the duo to first place overall for the tournament -- a last minute catch worth over a thousand dollars to the lucky pair!!

All proceeds realized from the Bass Fishing Tournament benefit the Moosup Lodge Scholarship Fund. You are invited to join the 2002 competition now. Planning is already underway for the 2002 tournament. For information contact Mark Henry (860-572-1319), or simply print out a tournament form, complete it, and mail it as shown on the form.

The proceeds from the Moosup Lodge Bass Fishing Tournament help fund two scholarships awarded annually at the Moosup Lodge Scholarship Banquet. The banquet is held in January of each year, and includes a 'soup-to-nuts' roast beef meal at a minimal cost, followed by an extensive raffle of items donated by local businesses and lodge supporters.

Moosup Lodge has donated over $10,000 in scholarships since the program's inception in 1982, and we are very proud of our recipients' successes.

The scholarships are open to any high school student residing within the boundaries of the towns of Plainfield or Sterling, or to any relative of a Moosup Lodge brother, or to any active member of the local Demolay or Rainbow chapters. To qualify, the candidate must complete an application (available from the Plainfield High School guidance office or from a Lodge officer), maintain a cumulative high school grade point average of at least 80 (2.7 of 4.0), and be accepted at an accredited post-secondary institution. Additionally, all candidates must submit to a personal interview by the Moosup Lodge Scholarship Committee. Recipients are named at their respective high school's baccalaureate excercises, however, cash stipends are not presented until the Scholarship Banquet, following the recipient's successful completion of his or her first semester of schooling.
