Challenge
You come to ask me why I'm so complex
changing back and forth all the time
I say it's just that you can't understand
for having a simple mind.
I come to ask you why you're so hard
on me, for things I haven't done
for things you haven't taken the time
to see, the hearts that I've won.
And you admit one of them was yours
for being a challenge to your calm
for knowing that you're around my finger
and that I am in your palm.
I'd do anything for you
and you the same for me
though we disagree who we should be
you need more complexity
I need more simplicity.
But I believe it would throw us off
to where we couldn't come to see
each other and have a conversation
in which we could speak this free.
So we'll stay this way
I don't think we'd be badly spent
because we've both seen the ways we've bent
complexity wins half of the time
simplicity wins its 40 percent
and the other 10 is a toss-up.
