Breakfast in the Park
We went
to celebrate her healing
and she took my hand
and said how she was feeling
we ate and drank
and she shared her little mind
as we swung on swings
and monkey bars to climb
the see-saw was a bit unbalanced
but she pushed off with feet, mighty and far
she said they would walk a thousand miles for me
as mine did for her, carrying her when we had no car.
Sausage biscuits, hashbrowns, and syrup
pancakes and chocolate shakes
sitting at the top of the slide together
she said she knows we both have what it takes
to be strong and make life
what we want it to be
my arms around her from behind, kiss her cheek
we went sliding down, her and me.
We will make this a regular date.
