Dance with the Devil
Since I've been awake, I've thought to keep
to myself what I saw in my sleep
to avoid being put on the looney list
but I must tell, Lucifer does indeed exist.
Fire danced in the skies like harvest moon light
closer, pulling, peering all against my fright
and I saw you
I knew you knew
looking back, no hole to go through
Turning to you again,
you were in my face
no such thing then
as mortal time and space,
looking down at your extended hand
saw my name in your palm, a brand.
I saw passion in flared nostrils of sin
warm stinch of death your breath drawing in
stuck against your shit-eating grin
you said you knew where I had been.
And there was a wrenching pain at my back
burning bad as freezing, maybe I would crack
you said to me, “come, it's late, you cannot choose”
pain so fierce to close my eyes to my muse
a sudden cooling relief, a strength to refuse
staring straight and hard at you,
“guess what? YOU LOSE!
You cannot have this soul on which you trod
you cannot have this soul, I've given to God”
The hole appeared and I ran like hell
and I'm walking earth now so I can tell
though my mind is somewhat
still covered in mist
I know, so believe it,
Lucifer does indeed exist.
