The Sound of Fireflies

I closed my eyes last night
and sat with you by the fire
gazing out on the whitecaps glowing
as angels swept the ocean higher

looking up to the sparks in black skies
light projected years before we were born
you told me of the things you've learned
as we walked the shore my footprints adorn

When the wood was gone and the water calm
and words of wisdom turned to pondering
having captured this beauty and wealth
I opened my eyes and found me wandering

quietly about in the middle of the woods
only daydreaming, I was, though stark
for a moment I stood and life was good
fumbling the rhythm of the dark

it happens when I close my eyes
to know the sound of fireflies.
