Things
I see the homeless every day
those who'll have no one on Christmas eve
picking up cans and cigarette butts
and they never really leave
even though it's my job
to shoo them from society
because people are just that way
it's something they don't want to see
I'm as gentle as I can be.
I see the children every day
neglected and dragged along
Salvation Army only does so much
ringing the bell as they sing their song
GoodWill and Santa Claus
pitch in their helping hand
but many kids go without shoes
walking upon this frozen land
I try to help them understand.
I see the fake folks every day
the stiff-shirt, suit-and-tie
"image people" who aren't what they are
blue jeans at home, out here a lie
BMW in the worldly hours
VW Bug in personal time, out of light
they don't call it "fool's gold" for nothing
God, what a pitiful sight
I watch, again, day fade to night
thinking, again, how to make things right.
