Farewell, Pretty-Boy

I drove by just to see if you were there
you stepped out in time to see me-
and caught me coming back around
did I want to have a cup of coffee?

could we talk? did I still love you?
I said I had to go because you were going-
Farewell today? You bought your ticket, planned your way
but in your eyes, your sadness glowing.

And you saw mine too, though closed
farewell tonight, just to want you in my sight-
you said I had to come for a reason, what?
You know I know this love is right?

I only wanted to look at you, that's all
but maybe one day you will be more
than something handsome like a statue,
pretty like an oil-painted seashore.

You said you didn't have to leave
but you do
because it breaks my heart
to look at you
to wonder why you couldn't be more
of what I needed and not so pretty-
pretty-boy I love you still somehow, farewell now
leave on to grace each passing city-
why cry? Damn, what a pity.
