Holes We Needed Filled

I was what you needed
to fill the little hole
that marriage had made where
the comfortable took its toll

I was what you needed
to make you feel alive
to calm your tattered nerves
to give you inspiration to thrive

You were what I needed
to cover the anger inside
because I needed some memories
where my mind could simply hide
on those sad rainy days
when I needed another place
to go away from where I was
and have sunshine on my face

You were what I needed
for laughter, hugs, and kisses
for conversation and advice
to hit where reality misses
to spread the greatness of you
over my body and soul
to give us breath where life had
chisled a tiny hole

that we filled in so well.
