Someone Else's Shoes
I woke up in the middle of the night
and looked underneath my bed
for my nice warm fuzzy slippers
but found rugged boots instead
the floor was cold and hard
I scuffled in the dark around
to try to find my comfortable shoes
but only the boots were found
a little aggravated, I put them on
and proceeded to my kitchen
to get myself a glass of water
my toes protruding from the stitchin'
I clomped and fromped and romped
slipped and fell and couldn't get up
bruised buttocks in a puddle of water
that I couldn't keep inside that cup
Sometimes it takes losing comfortable routines,
a chance to suffer a cut or a bruise
for one to understand what it really means
to walk in someone else's shoes.
