A point of thought and advice: the beauty of Islam as exemplified in the story of Adam and Eve is that man's (or woman's) focus should never be on the negative aspects, i.e. sins and faults, but the beauty of Islam is focussed on taubah - a word which has a very deep and profound concept not usually known to everyone; and that is, that taubah does not entirely mean repentence!! But "turning or re-turning" and Allah is known as At-Tawwab (The One Who Oft-Returns) - meaning that Allah is not interested in our sins and imperfections but cares in our turning or re-turning to Him as we will do physically when we die so we must do spiritually and intellectually and behaviorally before we die. This recognition even if it arises out of many sins is far more glorious and meritorious than our failures. For God's aim is not to humiliate us but to awaken and refine us!! Either we choose this world to be purified or refined in or, God forbid, we submit to the Fire for our refinement! So let us focus on the "taubah" - the turning to Allah and making him our Pivot and Focus of life and let us not be bogged down with feelings of regret and doomsday notions of failure but always look to the positive; Khalifa Ali once said that sometimes sinning is good because it makes one turn to Allah! There is an authentic hadith from the Prophet (s) that Allah is more happier on a person's turning towards Him than a man in the desert whose camel has gone away and is left stranded but only to later jump in utter joy after finding his camel. And in another authentic hadtih, "Allah, Blessed and Most High, said, 'O son of Adam, as long as you call upon Me and put your hope in Me, I have forgiven you for what you have done and I do not mind. O son of Adam, if your sins were to reach the clouds of the sky and then you would seek My forgiveness, I would forgive you. O son of Adam, if you were to come to Me with sins that are close to filling the Earth and you would then meet Me without ascribing any partners with Me, I would certainly [also] bring to you forgiveness close to filling it [the Earth]."
