SPHINX AND GREAT PYRAMID

/user/viewsphinx.JPG

Here is a very old, circa 1860's, stereoview of the most famous empty tomb in the world, The Great Pyramid and the most evocative image of the Land of the Pharaohs, The Great Sphinx.  In the next view we will see several intrepid Europeans ready to brave the "Curse of the Pharaohs" by climbing  the Great Pyramid.

CLIMBING THE GREAT PYRAMID

/user/viewclimbers.JPG

This is a circa 1870's cabinet sized stereoview of several Europeans being helped by Egyptian guides to climb the Great Pyramid of Cheops.  This view was part of a series of Egyptian views "brought from Egypt by Miss Maggie G. Lockhart, a missionary from Andes. N. Y.  Copied by Chas. Carman, Photographer, Andes, N.Y."  In this view we see several men in Western dress as well as one woman (Miss Maggie?) in a bustle (!) braving the "Curse of the Pharaohs" or at least heat, sunstroke and skinned knuckles to attempt the Pyramid of Cheops.

MUMMY OF SETHOS I

This is a circa 1920's Keystone stereoview, depicting "The Body of Sethos I Who lived in 14th Century B. C. Cairo, Egypt."  This is one of the most perfectly preserved of the Egyptian mummies.  Just look at that peaceful face --- quite an improvement on that guy in the movie.
