The Annotated Gorean Links String

A Compendium Of Gorean Links

The intent of this site is to promote the works of John Norman, providing information on the world he has created, and the philosophical and sociological theories he shares through it. Some of the locations given are more accurate regarding the books than others, but in general, all of these sites provide useful information in a well presented format. No infallible claims or blanket endorsements are made as to the quality of any of these locations, such is left to the opinion of each individual. Categories are provided only to better direct the user to what they may be looking for and the type of involvement they seek. Distinctions are made between those sites apparently designed for forms of role-play, and those centered on the lifestyle and real life. Neither are discriminated against based on this criterion, and the term "role-play" is not always a reflection of an individual's private life, but an indication of the particular channel's apparent intentions. Denial of inclusion was primarily a result of observable copyright infringment, lack of content, or lack of accurate material.

It should always be remembered, that while sites such as these can be supplements to the reading of the books, they are not a substitution.

  • Annotated Listing

    Gorean Communities
  • SILK & STEEL - Founded by Zeb and Bear, and maintained by Marcus of Ar, this continues to be one of the best Gorean websites available. It includes a large amount of information on a variety of topics, along with lengthy discussions and commentaries on Gor, primarily as it relates to the Gorean lifestyle. Look for "The Gorean Way," "The Complete Marcus of Ar," and "The Third Knowledge." Silk and Steel is widely considered to be the founding Gorean IRC Channel. It is located on DALnet.

  • SARDARIA - "A community of men and women sharing a belief in and commitment to a particular set of ideas and principles collected and commonly called Gorean Philosophy." The site provides a detailed explanation of this community and its involvement with the Gorean lifestyle, interspersed with discussions on many aspects and issues relating to it. This website connects to a series of associated sites by the same group, which when taken as a whole provide an immense amount of information. The online form of this community can be found on AOL.

    Discussion Groups
  • THE GOREAN FORUM - Sardaria's multi-room discussion forum, located on AOL. This channel exists both as a daily open forum, and a weekly scheduled meeting, with a different room location used for each purpose. The weekly meetings revolve around set topics announced through the supporting mailing list and message board, while the daily forum is open to discussion or casual conversation by those interested in Gor and the Gorean lifestyle. This is not a place for serves and fictional settings, but interaction of the sort suggested.

  • SILK AND STEEL ON AUSTNET - A side channel sponsored by those of Silk & Steel, that exists "as an open forum wherein matters pertaining to Gorean issues and lifestyles can be discussed for the betterment of all involved." This room is not for fictional interaction, but for the gathering of real people discussing topics which effect their daily lives and interests.

  • GOREAN WHISPERS - This site exists to support both a weekly discussion channel and associated mailing list. This is a non-roleplay channel, with the aim of providing "an environment where people may discuss the Gorean values and beliefs and how they may be incorporated into real life." The group and its mailing list have a large world-wide following, that is somewhat centered in Australia.

    Lifestyle Channels
  • TAVERN OF STONE - Website for Tavern of Stone DALnet IRC Channel. Though the associated room has been closed by the owner, this website is still a good source of information regarding Gor as found in the books, and as it has developed online and off. Though the opening discussion tends towards limiting the Gorean lifestyle to a form of Master/slave relationship, the site is well written and well done, with a marked understanding of the novels. Excellent article entitled, "Commentary on IRC Gor," in which the author speaks of "Gorean-isms" as found on IRC and the conversion of Gorean ideas into the online environment, along with the dangers to be found in this forum. Includes a tour of the Tavern itself.

  • JAGGED DAGGER TAVERN - Website for a Gorean tavern located on Yahoo Chat, and the group associated with it. The site itself is broken into two parts - "Book Gor" and "Earth Gor," each dealing with issues concerning what the title suggests. The essays presented are well done, and indicate an understanding of the material dealt with, along with a desire to look deeper into the pages of the books while remaining true to them.

  • CROOKED TARN TAVERN - "A tavern where men can have a drink, enjoy a slave at their feet or simply speak to friends. It is also a place where people gather to discuss the Gorean philosophy, and to interact with those of like minds." A well designed and presented website that is easy to navigate and not overdone. The tavern is located on IRC AUSTnet.

    Gorean Channels
  • STEEL TALONS INN - A detailed and well designed website supporting a Gorean inn located on IRC AUSTnet. Besides giving thorough explanations of tavern rules and customs, the STI also explains many basic issues relevent to interaction within a Gorean tavern, including advice for those new to such things. Needs a little more work on accuracy, but overall contains a large amount of information and quotes, in an easy to navigate format.

  • RAIDER'S DEN - Set in the city of Port Kar, the Raiders's Den is a seedy wharf-side paga tavern. Site includes a detailed description and tour of the tavern itself, plus an overview of the city that is its home. It can be found on IRC DALnet. Also connected to it is the excellent "Kajira Dreams" website, found in the "Raider's Den Training Pens."

    Role-Play Groups
  • REALM OF TURIA - Based on the city of the same name as found in the Gorean novels, the Realm of Turia is a series of connected chat rooms intent on recreating an atmosphere in keeping with the world of Gor. Of particular interest is the downloadable, digitalized dictionary they have developed in a searchable database format. This group has been together for a number of years, existing on IRC AUSTnet.

  • FORESTS OF GOR - Probably the best and most accurate website pertaining to Gorean Panther Girls that is currently available. Of note is the discussion "Huh?... What's a Panther Girl?" which explores the personality and characteristics of these "Outlaws among Outlaws," reinforced with many quotes from the books. This site is also the supporting page for a band found on AOL.

  • THE STADIUM OF BLADES - A gladiatorial arena found on AOL. Based directly on the novels, with supporting combat system and regular scheduled events. Site includes explanation of contests, rules for events, and a hall of records listing contestants. Also announcements for tournaments and festivals.

    Gorean Information
  • THE GOREAN SOURCEBOOK - A large collection of reference material pertaining to Gor and Gorean Culture. Each essay is original to this site, written to provide an accurate and insightful exploration of the particular topic, with numerous supporting quotations presented to increase accuracy and usefulness. Less a listing of information then it is an attempt to dig deeper into the how things on Gor work, providing not only facts but a look into how each aspect functions and relates to others.

  • GOREAN LORE - A Gorean information page that is basically two websites in one. The "Quotes" section includes a large number of book passages, organized into nearly three dozen categories, while the "Encyclopedia" is an alphabetical listing of various Gorean facts, presented in an outline format with numerous page references given for the various topics.

  • BOOK TO BOOK - A large selection of quotations on Gor from the books of John Norman. The presentation is simple, presenting the passages book by book in the order they are found.

    Kajira Information
  • THE KAJIRA FORUM RESOURCE - A highly researched and heavily supported Website dealing with the topic of Gorean Slavery. Includes numerous essays examining particular aspects of the subject with over 400 quotations from the books presented to help clarify the issues handled. Also includes the most accurate and detailed examinations of Gorean slave positions, attire and slave dance to be found on the web, along with a four part study of the Gorean collar and brand.

  • KAJIRA DREAMS - Excellent site, full of thorough, well written, book supported material. Some "IRCisms" presented and explained, but the author makes sure to indicate them as such. Much is to be found here about Gor, centered around kajirae, their duties, life and thoughts. Included are long discussions on many topics with listings of food and drink, complete with explanation and ideas for service and preparation, and ideas on creating and performing Dances with a listing of those to be found in the books along with some originals. Also provided is a good section on the varied Free Women of Gor.

  • DANCES OF GOR - Site dedicated to the study of the various forms of Gorean dance. Included is not only material relevent to slave dance, but the various ethnic dances inherent to the different cultures of Gor. Site provides a number of essays on creating original dances and tips on performing them.

    Guides & Texts

  • BEGINNERS SURVIVAL GUIDE TO ONLINE GOR - An excellent reference guide for beginner's who wish to learn of Gor. Written by Marcus of Ar, this site presents a simple overview of the fictional world, outlining its peoples, customs, and cultures, with an overview of how this is represented online.

  • INTRODUCTION TO JOHN NORMAN'S GOR - Dreamer's six part introduction to the world of Gor. Besides presenting a detailed summary of the fictional planet and its cultures, this site also take a look at Gorean philosophy, male domination and slavery, particularly how these things may be incorporated into one's life on Earth.

  • QUICK REFERENCE MAP OF KNOWN GOR - An "unofficial" map of Gor, done by Marcus of Ar. Highly detailed and very well researched with references from the books provided. An altogether impressive job. Though it differs from the "official" Gor Map presented in the German edition of Renegades of Gor, the extent and precision of Marcus's research leads one to believe that his is likely the more accurate of the two, however "unofficial."

  • GOREAN COLLECTANAE - A comprehensive glossary of Gorean terms providing not just explanations of each listing, but also book references and quotations to further develop the entries.

    Individuals

  • DREAMSTRIKE - Homepage for Dreamer (aka FallenFire of Sardaria on AOL). A particularly large site for an individual's personal page, this location is broken into a number of sections, each filled with original essays written by the owner. These include a series on "Consensual Slavery", "Polyamory", "Domination", and a very well done "Introduction to John Norman's Gor." Dreamer is also a talented craftsman whose work can be viewed in the "Bazaar."

  • THE BEAR BITCH PROJECT - Done in the format of a message board, this site is a showcase for the lifestyle writings of Bear of Ar. Blunt, honest, and not always what people wish to hear, these are the reflections of one of the individuals earliest involved with online Gor.

  • GOR ON EARTH - The collected writings of Gabriel and his slave, kaylee. Presented are essays dealing with a variety of issues relating to the Gorean lifestyle, including examinations of ideas from the books, thoughts on living by the philosophy Gor presents, male domination and female submission, and reflections on life experience. Not your typical rehashing of the same limited topics and definitions. This is an active and involved site that is constantly being added to and developed.

    Message Boards
  • GOREAN PUBLIC BOARDS - Open now for well over two years, the Gorean Public Boards exists for just what its name suggests, the posted discussion of Gorean topics in a forum open to all. Users are advised to first read the board rules before directly joining in the conversations. This is the preeminent Gorean discussion board on the web.

  • THE GOREAN FORUM - A multi-forum message board open for the use of all those interested in Gor, Gorean culture, and the inherent philosophy. The forum entertains a diversity of topics ranging from those concerning the Gorean novels themselves, and the cultures depicted in them, to real life issues surrounding the Gorean lifestyle, and current world events and societal trends considered from the particular perspective of those involved with Gor.

  • SILK & STEEL COMMUNITY BOARD - A recently opened message board that exists as "a forum for the discussion of issues and topics regarding both the fiction of the Gorean novels and the reality of living the Gorean Philosophy in ones life in this society."

    Gorean Online Magazines
  • THE GOREAN VOICE - Gorean Newspaper/Magazine now over two years in consistent monthly publication. Excellent and sharp production. Full of useful and entertaining infromation. Worth looking at regularly. "A monthly on-line magazine which addresses both fans of the Chronicles of Gor by John Norman, with new, events and information, and the lifestylers & those interested, with interviews, information and articles on philosophy, honor, male domination, interaction and living within the codes in this society." Well done publication.

    Gorean Merchandise
  • DREAMSTRIKE BAZAAR - Besides being a Scribe of exceptional talent, Dreamer also dabbles in metal working, producing some fine Turian style collars and siriks for much less than what competitors selling inferior goods usually expect. I can personally endorse this man's work and its quality for I myself own two of his collars, and have nothing but good to say about them. If you think the example pictures on his site look good, I assure you that they do not do the real product full justice and you will be even more pleased when you receive your order.

  • DUNGEON FURNITURE.COM - This website represents an extremely talented craftsman by the name of Sonny Black, well known in the BDSM Domination community. Though not directly involved in the Gorean Lifestyle, Sonny is quite skilled in the manufacture of custom furniture, equipment, and entrapment devices - of the sort seen commonly in quality Domination Dungeons. He makes items to order, so can easily work within the specifications of the client, and enjoys producing unique and original objects. Sonny can be available for installation, and is open to the possibility of coming to visit a client to better discuss design and functionality in relation to the area intended for occupation.

    Original Gorean Artwork
  • GOREAN ARTISTS - A talented professional artist, also involved with online Gor and a fan of the series. The gallery includes numerous examples of his work, including three sections of Gor inspired creations. Miko is also available for commission work for those looking for original art based on their own descriptions.

The Annotated Gorean Links String was first begun in January of 1998. Originally, it was a cluttered collection of bookmarked links gathered for my personal use. It soon began to be passed around through e-mail, leading to a mail string being developed around this as others added suggestions for additional sites. To make the listing more user friendly, these entries were broken down into categories based on what they offered and how accurate they were, with comments then added to give the reader a general idea as to what each site presented. Later, this collection was turned into a website itself, in the hope of providing some sort of centralized directory of Gorean sites present on the web. As the listing grew and more people sent in submissions, the site was broken into two parts - an annotated collection, much like the original intent, and a separate page providing a general listing of sites, still broken into categories but without any commentary. Originally, this was done in reaction to the sheer number of sites that were presented, but the two page layout never seemed quite right for the site, so in time it was decided to merge the two in a tabled design. What you are now reading is this latest manifestation of the collection.

All sites included here have been considered before addition. Those sites which have an abundance of inaccuracies, provide little actual useful content, or are the product of plagiarism are refused inclusion. A large number of sites which might have been added fell into the latter case, being seen to include plagiarized material and thus excluded from the listing. Such sites are not only dishonest, violating the intellectual property of another, but also provide no real addition to what is already availible on the web, except one more lazy person wishing to have their name known.

(ed. 2006) Sadly... or perhaps for the best (those who understand, will understand)... many good Gorean websites have since "died", for a variety of reasons. This list is much smaller now than it once was and is not being updated. It exists now more as an example of what Online Gorean was in the past.
