This tune is appropriate background music for a traditional Malay dance performance (tarian) and will go well with the Tarian Lilin (Candle dance). The Tarian Lilin is a charming number; it is also a dramatic item as it is performed in semi-darkness. A lighted candle is placed on a small plate. The plate is held in the palms of the hands with the four fingers and the thumb clutching the circumference of the plate.. During the dance the lighted candles which are fixed to the plates are moved around under arms and over the head. Rings worn on the fingers of both hands click along to the beat of the music.
The Tarian Lilin may be choreographed with any number of dancers. A group of eight dancers would be a good number to show the flickering candles to advantage.
