Subject: the quote in my signature
Date: 12/13/00 7:48 p.m.

a couple of people have commented on the quote in my signature that came at the end of a couple of messages that i sent to this list. i change it periodically - i'm not going to change it right now - and it does not signify my personal opinions or beliefs, only what i find thought-provoking. apparently i succeeded in that respect anyway. no, i do not think that the best rapper out there right now is white, and i know that the best golfer is not "black" either. unfortunately, i also can't think of a single successful professional golfer who IS 100% african-american, whatever that means, which in my admittedly unqualified opinion is much closer to the point of the quote. and i find it extremely interesting that a black man can get away with saying that but a white girl can't get away with quoting him. can i even get away with saying any of THIS? i hope so. otherwise i'm going to be pretty disappointed. i mean, i thought that the fact that we do have both a successful white rapper and a successful professional golfer who is of wonderfully mixed heritage might mean that we are now finally in the year 2000 beginning to make some headway. maybe i was wrong to be so optimistic. either way, i'm very very VERY sorry if i offended anyone. please have an excellent winter break.

most sincerely,

jessica b. burstrem
