After the party, Romeo is hiding in the trees from Benvolio and Mercutio, so he can sneak into Juliet's house. Benvolio and Mercution are trying to find him, yelling out his name. Romeo says "Can I go forward when my heart is here?" He is saying that his love, Juliet, is here at the house, and he wants to stay with her. So, he climbs the trees, goes over the wall, and finds her window.
Juliet is sitting on her balcony talking to herself about Romeo. She says "Deny thy father and refuse thy name, or if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love and I'll no longer be a Capulet." Which means that if he marries her, she'll be a Montague and they won't be enemies. Romeo hears her talking about him and he decides to confront her and find out if she really loves him. They exchange vows. After talking about their love she asks him to make plans for their wedding. Romeo says he will, then they are interrupted by the Nurse and Romeo leaves as dawn comes.
That morning, Romeo asks Friar Laurence to marry them. The Friar refuses because he thinks that Romeo will treat Juliet the same way he treated Rosaline. Romeo argues that his love is true. The Friar finally agrees to marry the young lovers because he thinks their marriage might bring the two feuding families together.
That afternoon, Mercution and Benvolio are in the town square wondering where Romeo had disappeared to the night before. They are also talking about a letter that Tybalt sent to Romeo, challenging him to a duel. Tybalt wants to fight Romeo for showing up at the Capulet party the night before. Romeo shows up and is joking around with them. The Nurse comes into the square with her servant, Peter. They all start to call her names because she looks big, but is just all of the clothes that she has on. Then Romeo and the Nurse go to the church to talk in private. He tells her to have Juliet come to the church for confession and they will be married. He also tells her to come back later and pick up a rope ladder from his servant, so Juliet can put it out her window for him to climb on their wedding night.
Back at the Capulet house, Juliet is waiting for the Nurse to get back with Romeo's answer. Juliet is pacing back and forth. She complains that the Nurse would move faster if she were young and in love, like Juliet, but she is older and acts as if she were dead. The Nurse arrives and teases Juliet by complaining about what a long walk she had to make and how sore her back is. Juliet is angry and frustrated at the teasing. The Nurse finally tells her about Romeo's arrangements and Juliet rushes to join him at the church.
The act ends with Romeo and Juliet in the church being married by Friar Laurence, who tries to warn them against rushing things with their romance, telling them to "love moderately."
