Welcome to the 1st North Carolina Cavalry! Come on in! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

The 1st North Carolina Cavalry is a Regiment of Civil War Reenactors dedicated to accurately reenacting the historical period of our country's history popularly known as the Civil War. Our Regiment portrays both dismounted and mounted Confederate soldiers, as well as civilians, hospital personnel sutlers and musicians. Made up of men, women and children, we strive for authenticity in recreating battles from the War for Southern Independence. We also provide living history to educate the public both on the battle field and in our period military encampments. The 1st North Carolina Cavalry also participates in parades, local, state, regional, and national commemorative events, and provides living history demonstrations to private and public schools. We have the honor of being the official Color Guard for the John Bell Hood camp of the Sons Of Confederate Veterans. Our members research and develop period correct encampments, weapons, uniforms, and civilian attire to portray life as it was during the bygone era of 1861 through 1865 We pride ourselves on historically accurate impressions, safety and training, education and above all, having fun. We are currently seeking volunteers from all over Southern California, who are interested in joining a family oriented group. Through our quartermaster, we will supply new troopers with period correct uniforms and accoutrements on a temporary basis to get them started. In January 1863, Jerome Yates wrote to his mother, "Tell Him... to join the cavalry? if he can not get into the Commissary or Quartermaster's department to never join as a private? but by all means join the cavalry-and bear in mind that a private in the Infantry is the worse place he can possibly be put into in this war-so if he wants to have a good time Join the Cavalry." |
