Descriptive Essay: Peer Review Checklist
The person who had the greatest impact on my life,
and who I have always respected and adored is my Chemistry teacher. Not
only is she an extremely warm-hearted and amiable woman, a trustful friend,
but she also possesses great knowledge, and charming wit.
The very first impression a student may have
of her is her endless devotion to her job. All the students get carried
away by her enthusiasm, and keep saying that they have never thought that
compulsory subjects such as Chemistry could ever be so interesting or enjoyable.
She has great expertise, and with the help of her crafty experiments she
always manages to shed light upon the most sophisticated and incomprehensible
phenomena occurring in test-tubes. Her explanations are logical, elaborate,
and still, easy to follow.
She does not know what impatience or intolerance
means. When she sees faces staring at her with a puzzled look, she never
hesitates to go back again and again, and never gives up until everybody
has understood everything. She never loses her patience, never shouts at
anyone, and answers thousands of our silly questions in the same manner.
When the situation seems hopeless, she tells a joke and cheers us up so
that we can continue digesting the material.
What amazes me most is that it is not only her
profession that she is so well prepared in. Whenever we sit down to talk
I could endlessly listen to her anecdotes based on what she had just read,
seen or done. Whenever she talks about music, history, or poetry, one continuously
wonders how she has been able to gather and digest so much knowledge.
It is wonderful to be with her. Her personality
reflects stability, trust and wisdom. She is the type of person you can
always rely on, who you can laugh with, and whose opinion is always worth
considering. She is imaginative, dependable and precious in mind and soul,
which makes her the best teacher I have ever known.
In every teacher's life there is a moment when
he/she feels something more looming in the air than pure teaching and acquisition.
A dream is fulfilled when a teacher and his/her class create an atmosphere
in which perfect co-operation can take place. In my life this very moment
has finally arrived. The Wednesday morning class I am currently teaching
is the most gorgeous group a teacher can ever desire.
First and foremost, the enthusiasm glittering
in the ten pairs of eyes provides the firm ground for mutual appreciation
and adoration. Each Wednesday morning well before nine o'clock all the
group members occupy their seats and eagerly look forward to my entering
the classroom. A gentle smile immediately appears on their faces reassuring
me of their willingness to acquire and digest as much material as possible.
Their admiration does not only concern their
attitudes to the teacher, but also to the subject of Academic Writing.
For them, writing essays is the most magnificent pastime. Therefore, whenever
they have the opportunity to write an essay, they long for more and more
difficult titles to serve as challenge in their lives.
Furthermore, apart from their eagerness to write,
they are also provided with extraordinary talent in writing skills. The
essays they produce reflect their inherent meticulous and refined way of
thinking, which is accompanied by sophisticated language use. Thus the
group is capable of creating perfect pieces of writing both in terms of
content and language.
This group is able to form a perfect, well-functioning
community. In such a community working is enjoyable, and both the members
and the teacher feel exhilarated by the atmosphere surrounding them. For
a teacher, this group is the greatest gift of life.
