Historical and Current Views

My choosing of the symbolism of Mediteranean fertility Goddesses is not without reason.  The specific choice of Lilith as a representation of these Goddesses is also intentional.

In many of the mythologies, the Gods associated with the planet Mars have had interaction with the Goddesses signified by the planet Venus.  This has been either through marriage or adulterous affairs.  Prime examples are Ares with Aphrodite and Sammael with Lilith.  I identify, in many ways, with these Gods, so it should be understandable that I would indicate one of these Goddesses as my other half.  To be accurate, in my current Work, I'm dealing with my internal archetypes which these Gods and Goddesses symbolize.

The public view of Lilith has changed dramatically in the past thousands of years.  Strangely enough, She is not as well known as some of the Goddesses which are easily ascribed to the same spheres of influence.  It is my hope that, with this site, I can present Her in a fashion which doesn't incorporate the limitations surrounding Her fellow, publicly acknowledged, fertility deities.

Lilith: Past and Present

The ancient temples (as well as today's churches, synogogues and mosques) were places for social gathering and interaction with a single focus. I think the things celebrated and pondered in the fertility temples are sorely lacking in our time. Since the first thing people tend to imagine is prostitution, I think a brief explanation of these activities is in order. (I don't mean to imply that there wasn't prostitution, just that there is more to it.)

Temples: Past and Present

"For before the Lawgiving, the intercourse with a harlot was as lawful as cohabitation of husband and wife since the Lawgiving; it was perfectly permitted, nobody considered it wrong."
Chapter XLIX, The Guide for the Perplexed, Moses Maimonides
