The Story of Donald MacLennanCopyright © 1997 Property of Deborah K. Fletcher for Florence MacLennan Brown. All rights reserved.Daniel, or possibly Donald, MacLennan and his two brothers, and they must have been called Alexander and Roderick, because his two oldest sons were named after his brothers, came over on a land grant from the King. They had hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of acres. I'm not sure, but it seems to me that I heard that the two oldest boys were named after his two brothers. They went out deep sea fishing, were caught in a nor'eastern, two brothers were washed overboard, and Daniel managed to get home. All the property of his brothers went to him, because neither one was married. It must be that the farm is a barren waste today, because they had Kelly's Mountain in the back and a trout stream. He lived to be one month less than a hundred years old. He married Katharine Clark and they had eleven children, all of whom grew to adulthood. They farmed the land, caught lobsters that were shipped to Boston for food, and deep-sea-fished for cod, haddock, and eastern halibut (oh, they are beautiful things!).
