About our Group

Our group is quite small we have about 15 members. Our activities so far are classes in reading and writing Friulan and Friulan history. We have our meetings at the Famee Furlane of Toronto which has about 600 members. There are about 30,000 Friulans living in the Toronto area and this makes it the 4th largest city of Friulans in the world (after Udine, Pordenone and Gorizia).

Our goal is to draw attention to the state of Friulan today and to promote its use.

It is estimated that in addition to the 600,000 Friulans in Friuli there are another 1,000,000 people of Friulan origin outside of Friuli. There are large communities in Canada, Argentina, Australia, France, Germany and the United States. Most of the Friulans in the United States arrived there before WWII. There are also many Friulans in Northern Italy. There are other smaller communities in almost every country in North and South America and Europe.

In each large community there is a local Friulan club known as Famee Furlane (Furlan Family) or Fogolar Furlan(Furlan Hearth). There are over 50 of these worldwide. Friuli nel Mondo is an organization that organises events for overseas Friulans and publishes a monthly newspaper about events in Friuli and at the Fogolars.
