STAMPS FROM AITUTAKI

Aitutaki is a beautiful atoll with a triangle-shaped lagoon. It is located in the southern Cook Islands. Like Penrhyn, Aitutaki issued its own stamps at the beginning of the century (1902-27) and started again in the 70's (1972). Today, it is a major tourist destination (second only to Rarotonga in the Cooks). The population of about 2,500 lives on the main island. The motus dotting the eastern edge of the lagoon are uninhabited and boast some picture-perfect beaches.

This is an overprint on a 1915 New Zealand stamp.


This is one of the numerous stamps issued to commemorate Christmas of 1973.


This issue commemorates the USA-USSR joint space flight of 1975.

These are the miniature sheets of the 1981 issue for the Royal Wedding between Prince Charles and Princess Diana.
