World Wide Web "A hypertext-based, distributed information system created by researchers at CERN in Switzerland."
Hypertext

"Text which is not constrained to be linear.
  Text which contains links to other texts."

HyperMedia is
      "hypertext which is not constrained to be text.
        It can include graphics, video and sound."

Hyperlinks "A relationship between two anchors, called the head and the tail. The link goes from the tail to the head. The head and tail are also known as destination and source, respectively."
Web Browser

"A program which allows a person to read hypertext. The browser gives some means of viewing the contents of nodes , and of navigating from one node to another. "

Web Page

A document on the World Wide Web.

Web Server "Provides a service to another, known as the client. In a hypertext system, a server will provide hypertext information to a browser . "
Host

A computer system that has the hardware, software, and communications lines required to connect to the Internet.

URL

Uniform Resource Locator

"Short strings that identify resources in the web: documents, images, downloadable files, services, electronic mailboxes, and other resources."

The address of a document on the World Wide Web.

Has a specific syntax defined by RFC 1738

Indicates what protocol to use, and
Specifies the IP address or the domain name of the web server [host].

The path tells the host the directory and name of the document to retrieve; and if omitted, the host will retrieve the "Home Page" for the system.

"The Internet protocol specifically designed for use with the World Wide Web."

Domain Name

Used to identify the Web Site.
