23 Swan and the Aum So you wish to know what the number twenty three means? Why is it occurring everywhere you look? Why the coincidence and the synchronicity in your life seem to be increasing exponentially? What is the 23 enigma, as it has become known? We can give you clues as to the answer, unfortunately we cannot give you the answer. It is something which you must find yourself. That, is YOUR responsibility. Know this though, twenty three is significant. As a number it shows you a great many things in life.
The History of 23 c. 1900 - Aleister Crowley seems to have either come across an occult significance regarding the number 23 or had received knowledge of the importance of the number via one of the orders he became a memeber of, or via an entity. 1914 - The Book of Lies was first published containing the following passage:
1960's - William S. Burroughs encounters his first 23's during a visit to Tangier. He begins keeping records of coincidences involving the number 23. 1966 - Robert Anton Wilson is introduced to 23 during an interview with William S. Burroughs for Playboy. He too begins keeping a record of the occurrence's of the number 23. 1970's - The phenomena spreads and the number is taken up as an icon by the Temple Ov Psychic Youth aka TOPY. 1980's - Robert Anton Wilsons' Cosmic Trigger trilogy expands the awareness of the 23 phenomena, more and more people are joining groups such TOPY, Network 23, the Spiral Tribe. 23 has now come back home to its original Acid laden roots, but this time the music and the technology are the reality that was only imagined by the likes of Wilson and Leary. 1990's - The KLF hit the music charts with their new branch of dance music heavily influenced by the illuminatus trilogy of Robert Anton Wilson. The band is surrounded by many 23 occurances both in their music and also there 'off - stage' antics. 1999 - Following in the footsteps of many 23rdians (as they have become known) a group of as yet unknown individuals register the domain of http://www.twentythree.co.uk on This site features an initial 3 page website with the third page being an initiatory doorway, where if you place your email and submit your details you will be contacted by the creators of the site. 2003 addendum: The TTP or Twenty Three Project are now understood to be the following people - Andy Chatterly, Richard Norris, Michael Parfitt 2000 - On the 11th of November 2000 the first invites are sent out to the first wave. They are invited to a bullitin Board hosted by a Jersy based internet clothes store http://www.theclothestore.com/board here they arrive not knowing quite why they are here and so the mystery begins. 2001 - Things progressed, as they inevitably do. And new sites sprung up everywhere. Its now 2003 and the inevitable evolution of 23rdianism has progressed/regressed?? into http://www.23rdian.org . It now seems to be a co-operative run by camps on both sides of the atlantic and hosted by a mysterious gentleman who goes by the Psyg - pita. Their current project is an almost exact replica of the original http://www.twentythree.co.uk entitled http://www.23keys.net check it out for yourself and look for the simillarities. Well 2004 has arrived and a new offshoot appears in the realm of 23rdia. That os Ireallity. The number 23 is neither total -neither territory (Austin Osman Spare's mindfuck technique - comparing opposites separate, together, then absent).
(But of course it isn't. It is just a number like any other, 22 before it, 24 after, surely?) Except that 23, for us, seems to behave very strangely. It has become a snake in the grass of reason. Thus the exception; for The Process always the exception. The Individual. Every man and woman is a 23.
"A presence, neither good luck or bad luck, it seemed to have some sort of control over its appearance." Like the Process Cross, 23 has been isolated to symbolise certain concepts, random chance, Crowley's GET OUT, Burroughs' total cut-up, Robert Anton Wilson's total paranoia symbol. Its "common" (!) significance is its provocativeness, its individuality, however one wishes to depict it. So, OK, you have your cynicism, you may remain unconvinced, may not recognise The Process, you see everywhere human weakness and self-interest - but the next step is to realise that cynicism is not a total answer, that the facade/shell of ego/"cool"/style can, and must be, discarded before we grow once more and enter a new "time zone" of evolution. Drop your shield, be vulnerable, thee wound is the reminder, you cannot remain untouched, so touch yourself. In many systems of magick numbers are said to have meanings. 23 has many meanings all of which are applicable to The Process: Initiation; Union of Fire and Water (symbols of male and female) - sex; Integration of all levels of consciousness. 23: Number ov "Coincidence" - thee genes in thee human being consist ov 23 chromosomes, blood needs 23 seconds to cross thee human body. A sign ov life and death, its correlation and its unknown dimensions. Death/mortality - thee ultimate reference point for each human being. To live fully without regrets or not. We are mortal. Here and Now. Magick: a system ov Will Made Flesh. We focus our will in collective ritual across thee world on thee 23rd ov each month, and programme/tune-in our mutual wavelengths/sexual desires in thee moment ov orgasm. Our will- power programmed in thee genes and assembled in thee liquids ov semen/lubricant/blood/spit, and hair. |
