The Gospel of Sophia

I am the goddess Sophia. I am the first honest deity because I make no claim to objective or subjective existence. I am a symbol through which the infinite and unknowable Creator of all things may be worshipped. Henceforth, I shall refer to myself as if I were the Creator because I hope through me you may come to a more rewarding relationship with Deity; however, whereas Deity is the fountain of all truth, my gospel here is as fallible as the mere mortal who has written it. It is up to you to decide the wisdom of these words.

Before space and beyond time I have always been and ever will be. The  rational mind can not completely grasp me. If I say that I am everywhere and nowhere, your rational mind will say that can not be, yet I insist it is so.

I have no chosen people and no elect. My name has no salvific power. I have damned and will damn no one to hell. My Gospel is not a set of rules which I have set to trip you up. My will is for your happiness and that of my other creatures only; therefore, I offer my gospel to help you avoid evil and the suffering which it brings. If you cannot see the wisdom in my words, if your will violates mine, I feel no anger, only sympathy for you.

I am asking you to worship me not to soothe my ego, but rather as a way for you to approach Deity, to bring its power and light into your life. It is for your sake, your happiness, not mine, that I ask you to worship me.

Right now I would like to apologize to you because I am not a goddess that can answer every question you may have. I am a goddess that is most concerned with this world and this life, not the next. Please trust me when I say that if you can live this life in the fullness of love for me and my creation, the next life will take care of itself.

My gospel is a gospel of Love. Divine, universal Love is my Holy Spirit  in this world. Worship me as that first. Love me, love my creation, love yourself and love others as they are a part of yourself. In me all is one.

My Gospel is a Gospel of beauty. Beauty is my signature on the face of the world. Think! Is there any material need for beauty? If you were merely a material being, programmed only for survival, why should you have a sense of beauty. Beauty is superfluous--the overflowing of joy in my creation.

If I am a Goddess of Love and Beauty, you ask, why is there also hatred and ugliness in the world, and you have a right to ask this question. My answer is that hatred and ugliness are artifacts of creation.

I am consciousness, pure and simple, in order to create the world of love and beauty, I had to "marry" myself to unconsciousness. I had to forget that I was the one and only being. By "wedding" myself with my opposite, the whole created world of opposites was created. So, along with love came hatred and along with beauty came ugliness, along with pleasure came pain. This I could not change.

Obviously, I decided this way was best, and who would know but me.

Perhaps you are in pain physically or spiritually and you want to curse me. How could I create such an awful world, you might ask. Please don't think me evil. I am always with you in your pleasure and your pain. In fact, I am your innermost Self. That part of you which feels the pain is me. Whether you can believe it or not, I have done nothing to anyone but myself. I am one without other. Therefore, I am beyond good and evil.

But believe this: The world I created was created for the sake of the good in it. If you are of healthy mind and heart, then I am sure you are also seeking the good. If you are not sure, then consider this: Evil is stupid! Evil people often think they are smart-- getting over on the fools. In fact they may be clever, but they are not wise. Evil people are never happy and their evil will return to them in one form or another. I do not curse the evil; they curse themselves. I wish they would stop doing evil because it causes us all so much needless pain.

Therefore, be wise. Here is wisdom:

Believe that you and I are one; therefore, fear not death. We shall never die.

Believe that through me you and all creation are one; therefore, do unto others as you would have them do to you.

Appreciate the Love and Beauty around you. Accept that there will also be heartache as well joy, pain as well as pleasure, evil as well as good.

By appreciating the good, your joy will be multiplied; by accepting the bad your heartache will be lessened.

Like all my creatures you are seeking happiness. Seek it not in material things, but rather in spiritual things. Seek it in the Love of family and community. Seek it in the Beauty of nature.

People naturally seek power and glory, but there is a natural law: power and glory ultimately belong to me. They will belong to you also only in so much as you identify with me and my will. This is not an arrogant egotistical god speaking here. I am telling you this so that you can avoid the inevitable tragedies that occur when men try to arrogate  power unto themselves.
