My Bavarian Krippe continues an old
German tradition that has been handed down to me by my parents. When I was a
child, my father built a Bavarian Krippe every Christmas. It was a major
undertaking for him because the Christmas scenes often covered an entire wall
in our living room. I even remember one year that it turned the corner into
another room.
As my brother and I grew older, the
Krippe finally grew smaller; but it continued to bring joy to our family and to
neighborhood children who had never seen anything like it. Then, one after
another, grandchildren were born and my father built with even more enthusiasm
because he wanted this new generation of our family to experience the beauty of
this old tradition.
