While I have stayed involved on the farm all my life I have also always been involved in one or more enterprises in addition to off farm jobs. This page will be capsules of some of them. |

This is an old 1955 bus we used in a mowing business for a few years. I bought this bus for $90. and drove it home. we painted it with a paint roller using implement paint. I removed the seats and cut the opening for the "drawbridge" door which served us well for loading and unloading both walking and riding mowers. If I were doing another I would build a dormer over the door so the door could be high enough to not require ducking. I still have this bus but it has been parked quite a few years now. BTW the grill (good), hood (good), fenders (only fair) and the 235 engine (ran good when parked) are for sale. I am going to use the chassis to build a small semi-trailer. Several households of furniture were moved in this bus for my kids and friends, loved that ramp. |

This was our first store, opened in 1974. We were in this building for 2 years. We were in the vacuum cleaner and small appliance business selling most brands of vacuum cleaners that were not sold door to door and some that were. We repaired all brands. - In 1976 we put up a new house at the farm and built a one story store building next to the house. - More to come about this later. |

This is the 4 wheel drive Jeep wrecker that was part of our enterprise for a couple of years when we had a tire shop and auto service. Was a good truck, had a Buick 350 engine with dual straight pipes. Couldn't sneak up on anybody. |

This was a small display we had at our county fair to sell metal fabrications from the shop. At left the 2 yellow post were the side rails of an improved after market set of portable ladder and steps for hopper bed wagons that hooked over the top and was held down with springs but could be moved to another wagon. On the desk and painted green was an after market telescoping bolt on hitch for a wagon tongue. The tractor was equipped with a tow bar, 2 different bolt on steps and a remote brake lock attachment. The little tent was a camper awning with plywood gables mounted on my scaffold frame. |
