MURR is the Highest Powered Research Reactor 
at a public University in the United States.
The University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR)
provides opportunities for research
and graduate education in the neutron-related sciences that are unmatched
at any other U.S. university.
The central focus of this research center is a 10 megawatt light water moderated
reactor that is the highest power university research reactor in this country.
The reactor provides extensive capabilities for both neutron beam research
as well as irradiation facilities
for producing a variety of isotopes and performing activation analysis.

Licensed Senior Reactor Operator
I am one of twenty three people licensed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to operate and maintain this reactor facility.
Operations Group
Reactor Operations continued to provide maximum safe operation of the reactor
in support of the MURR Center's
broad spectrum of programs in research, education and service. From July 1,
1993 through June 30, 1994, the reactor operated at full power 89% of all
available hours, which is slightly less than our goal of safely operating
greater than 90% of all hours per year. The slightly greater than normal downtime was devoted to several major outages undertaken to upgrade MURR's long-term research capabilities. The upgrades included the replacement of the beamport A original liner and upgrading the experimental can arrangement at beamports B and C to provide a more intense beam of neutrons at these ports.
