The Jewel of
Perfect Rest
"So we see that they could not enter in the Promised Land (of Peace or Rest), because of unbelief." Hebrews 3:19
It is interesting to note that the word "believe" in the Bible, was initially translated from the old Greek word, "pisteuo," which has much broader connotations than what we in now ascribe to it. In fact it means, "to cleave-to, to adhere-to, have faith-in, depend or rely-on." In effect, belief is an abiding faith or consciousness in something that is divine and much higher than ourselves which Christ is.
Our belief that we are only mortals (ie. physical self-sufficient beings in our own right) is tantamount to sin and causes us to live under the 'Law' for we are clothed in ignorance and selfishness and not under 'His Grace', however, once we can discern the glory of the Lord, which is already 'in us' underneath all our personal layers of traditional human beliefs, then we can begin to live in His joy as part of Him.
Thereafter we can begin our 'walk' with Him reflecting His Nature, His Will, His Works, His Light, His Wisdom and His Love (ie. the fruits of His Righteousness) into the world around us. This walk (which is really a display or reflection of His Goodness and Works in us) can only be accomplished from 'resting' in Him after we have completely surrendered our old selves to Him in a living sacrifice. Completely yielding ourselves to the Lord is a major key to salvation.
We all basically live in our own unique beliefs, which revolve around our identifications (yokes) to personal actions or deeds associated with flesh and these lead us to assume or believe that we are separate persons, ie. from God and are sufficient in our own right and volition, this is why they are sins. Whether these originate from the memories of past deeds which we performed in the capacity of a knower/performer, or in current actions in relation to any ordinary task at hand, we continuously "apply, associate, identify" ourselves to their 'traditional' purports unwarily. We need to leave the land of our fathers to reach the Promised Land.
These common 'human beliefs' are evil 'spirits' that continually speak into our minds and hearts and thus, need to be scrutinised for they keep us in the dark oppression of ignorance. On the other hand, the written Word of God in the Bible tells us we are much more than that, we are 'more than conquerors.' We have been described as 'God's sons and daughters' when we have repented of our old ways and are anointed by His Holy Spirit.
It is important to note that because 'we are made in His Divine Image' we must also be able to reflect All Truth which is the Creator Himself through His Image inside which we all abide and which, is Christ Jesus, His only Begotten Son.
Our subtle notions of personal action are cords that bind us under the old Law and are the root causes of our iniquities and suffering. (The Eastern Traditions call this the Law of Karma).
Jesus has already overcome their sting of death for us once and for all, - there is nothing we can do to add to what he has already accomplished for us, but to completely yield ourselves to His Holy Feet.
Just before he died on the cross, our Lord proclaimed 'it is finished.' Believe the Word,……it is finished!
To abide in the grace of the Son of God we must enter into the spiritual through the help of His Holy Spirit leaving all concepts of the natural behind. The new born-again self is of His Seed and cannot sin for it is the expression of His perfect reflection in a newly evolving heart and mind that are continually being purified until such time as His Beautiful Face can be seen reflected in them. "The pure in heart shall see God!"
Ephesians 5:2 and 5:8 confirms that our required 'walk' is really only an expression or a reflection of "Love" which God is. There in no acting or doing on our part.
By giving 'ourselves-up' for the sake of other lost souls in the world (as Christ did), as a living sacrifice to God, one needs not labour. He or she needs to have a firm resolve of surrender to do so.
In the past we were sometimes in darkness and strove to accomplish things by ourselves but now, 'we are light in the Lord; and thus should 'walk' (ie. reflect Him into the world for the benefit of other souls) as children of light.'
Ephesians 5:3-5 describes the alternate walk that the majority of people have chosen in the natural, -most people are compelled to live under eg. fornication (lust), covetousness. These are but two of the compelling powers of evil which rule self-centred egos from every creed, tradition and language. Undoubtedly for similar reasons, John tells us that if one 'hates another,' he is a 'murderer'. Note that Cain envied or hated his brother and then killed him. Why? -Because his works were evil! His brother 'Able' 'walked with the Lord' and we know this because his priorities placed 'God first,' the lamb offering was a firstfruit. Able put God before himself!
Ables' walk was nothing less than the power and grace of the Lord Himself working through him and this is the only righteousness that there truly is. The Lord alone is Righteous. Philippians 3:13 confirms this transformation is what actually occurs to the pure soul: "But it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do His good pleasure."
We have to learn to see our Lord and God's involvement in all things and especially in ourselves! Heaven is meant to be brought down to earth right here and now through our surrender to Christ Jesus.
In the spiritual, we are already seated in the heavenly places with our Lord but if we choose to continue to 'walk or live' independently from Him, we turn our backs on His Grace. 'No flesh shall glory in His Presence' thundered-out from the lips of Paul for this same reason.
What is of the flesh is flesh, what is of the world is worldly and what is of the Spirit is Spirit! Therefore display or reflect the works or fruits of the Holy Spirit by getting out of His way allowing Him to do so. Surrender your will to Him, 'allow His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven' through you.
Continually pray and ask that Christ be magnified and exalted in you: "Let such as love thy salvation say continually, The Lord be magnified." Ps 40:16
Many people at this 'time of the end' will come to the place or need to continually ask the Lord to be exalted, to be magnified in and through their lives, their hearts, their minds and their deeds.
If we do not hate (kill the notions of) our self-fulfilling-selves we can never overcome the allurements of the world and then, we cannot be His disciples! We can only pick-up our crosses in the denial of self according to His holy Word! Not many preachers nowadays will lead you into this key truth from the Holy Spirit.
The following Reference from Isaiah 59:2 talks of our self-propelled wills and deeds and says: "Your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid (veiled) His Face from you."
Adam was created on the sixth day after God had finished His creation and then the Lord God entered into His rest. Adam was therefore called 'not into action' but into His rest. This was meant to ensure that Adam was in a continual relationship with God our Father and secondly to reflect or exhume God's Benevolent Nature into the world around him.
John tells us: "God is Life and that Life is the light of men.'
It must then follow that what ever lights us up mentally, emotionally, physically is truly He. In this regard I direct you to man's own 'consciousness' because it is the most subtle aspect of ourselves for every thought, conception, perception, emotion, action etc. all 'rest' in it. Without it nothing can be there. Think about it! Consciousness is the light of our respective inner worlds and thus also of our manifested outer world.
It must then follow that remembrance of the Lord by associating His Divine Restful Nature to our own underlying 'witnessing consciousness' is in direct opposition to the normal errors of partial self-centred vision (ignorance) working as personal-minds and moving physical images. It must therefore be the "straight highway" for us to lay for Him, to reach us.
The psalmist gives us more clues by telling us to 'do good and depart from evil,' how? - by 'seeking peace and pursuing it' Psalm 34:14 . Now this is not the peace in the world between nations or neighbours, which is also desirable and good but it is a deeper insight. It ties 'pure consciousness' which is the 'light' of our minds to the nature of peace. "The end of the perfect man is peace." Ps 37:37
Our Heavenly Father breathes the Holy Spirit into each soul when they are born and He is the nature of Peace. By accepting Lord Jesus He becomes personalised to them.
We can still ourselves by diving into our own essential natures of pure awareness through an identification with peace. This locks one in their closet away from thoughts, cares, preoccupations and desires of the day. More specifically, look at this statement: this is achieved through our 'awareness of inner peace.'
Once in that place of 'peace that is beyond all understanding', (beyond mind and knowledge) we are only called to 'wait' and not to work nor seek nor strive. We surrender our selves to that inner peace as in a death and trust in that aura of rest because it emanates from our Lord.
The Lord wants to anoint us in our inward parts to make us whole and by touching our essential natures of consciousness with His Power, the continual gyrations of our personal minds, the worlds and our fleshy preoccupations contained in them, are then overshadowed. His Name can then be glorified in us. Hallelujah!
The Book of Lamentations supports the aspect of waiting for the Glory of the Lord to be revealed. We cannot force the Lord to come to us any sooner because of our impatience, frets or restlessness, for those things are still only the qualities of the ego or the mentations of our manifested mind rooted in the twin demons of desires and fears.
King David said 'he will be happy indeed when he awakens in His likeness.' As common people we are 'sons of men' and live in the dream world of egos which is evil and sinful, for we ascribe all knowledge and its respective representations to ourselves. We need to awaken to what the Lord has already granted us in creating us 'in (inside) His Image.' In fact, the Lord 'is' our salvation.
Our Glorious God 'hath already given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness." Jesus has conquered Satan already and it is up to us to believe God's infallible Word through His Holy Spirit. Thus we are instructed 'to walk by faith and not by sight and the Book of Proverbs says 'on your intelligence rely not!'
We are much more than what our fleshy senses tell us we are.
The Book of Psalms teaches: "Be still and know that I AM God." - Oh Halleluiah! Our Lord Jesus is the Source and Support of all that is in us, He is our inner Sun illuminating the inside and outside world for us. In troubled times, He is also our Shield.
Many hearts shall be called to Him in this current global revival caused by the out-pouring of the Holy Spirit, but few shall be chosen when He returns, because they will continue to choose to retain their false sense of personal-freedom and existence! They will have continued to live or walk under the Law and not under His grace for personal gratification. These people are always luke-warm and prefer to continue to live as a lie following the father of all liars namely, Satan!
It is in that 'awareful quietude or peace' that both the abasement of our lower natures and the exultation of the Divine Nature occurs simultaneously. That is the optimum environment for spiritual transformation. That is the Holy Ground where wisdom is meant to flourish in our inward parts. The Holy Spirit needs to transform all that is deep in man.
Please note that seeking the Lord by the soul (our witnessing nature) is translated as waiting in order to remove any connotation of personal doing or performance and in Judaism, devotees allocated different watches during the twenty four hour period in each day for this type of practise:
"The Lord is good to those that wait for Him, to the soul that seeks Him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord." Lamentations 3:24-6
The next two verses in this chapter explain that man has to come to recognise his past identifications, his errors of judgement, all his iniquities and sins and is forced to 'lower his face (self) into the dust," into the humbleness of a child (depicted in the Bible as the colt of an ass which carried the Lord into Jerusalem), before the Lord forgives and accepts him:
"It is good for man to bear the yoke of his youth. He sits alone and keeps silence, because he hath borne it upon him."
When the Flame of Truth burns away all past transgressions, the seeker will find himself sitting on their pile of ashes, as some of the prophets were depicted in the Bible.
The following Reference from Psalm 37:7 goes so far as indicating that the restful state is in fact the Lord, and the awareful-waiting is to realise that higher truth: "Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him." This is what Jesus meant when he said: "Come unto me, all you who labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28)
Hebrews 4:1-11 urges us to: "Make every effort to enter God's Rest in order to rest from our own work for as long as there is a period called "Today" (ie. now, the present moment).
"Today" does not exist in the Netherworld of Causality, which is comprised of all the dormant impulses of yesterday's actions, of the dark-dissolution of unresolved personal deeds waiting in "storehouses of limbo," in a deep-soil of unknowing, for the enlivening waters and sunlight of spring, in order to put-forth new shoots of growth (action), to reach-out into the vast sky.
Now where can that "special rest or transcendental peace" be, if it is beyond our normal levels of understanding and if it is not within our very selves? Matthew 11:29 adds clarity in this regard by stating: "Be yoked (ie. permanently tied or connected) to Jesus," as the Faithful and True Witness (Revelation), for His Light in us (Awareness) is "gentle, restful and we can learn from Him."
Thinking of the Lord through-out the day is certainly good but remember you are also using an instrument to think named "Mind" that is of the flesh. That is why we can read and read the holy Bible but often, as soon as we put it down we forget what we have just read!
Luke tells us that this 'kingdom of God is within us' and we are also instructed to 'seek that kingdom firstly and the Lord's Righteousness and all things will be added unto us."
An entirely new way of life is implied here to overcome the natural instincts and inclinations of our intellects and hearts while living in our tents of flesh. This is not only a mere spiritual practice it is the way of abiding in Him continually, it is in fact His secret place within our very selves!
Remember that no one can enter into God's-Rest as a tenant labourer (ie. as a thinker or knower, perceiver, doer, feeler etc.), for it would be a contradiction. All effort of the limited to reach the Limitless is futile. Neither flesh nor our associations with it can ever share in His glory. The Word of God cannot be engrafted onto unholy things and still today people continue to 'worship the works of their own hands" as even the zealous Jews did long ago and in effect, they are only 'lovers of themselves.'
Our calling into 'peace (bliss)' requires us to kill all our fallacies of performance as carnal beings, for: 'Without blood there is no sacrifice," and overcoming our compulsions to act can only be accomplished through a surrender at the most subtle of human levels which wisely acknowledges each thought, sensory impression, desire, feeling, action etc. "Every (causal) word that proceeds from the Father" to manifest what it is meant to, is in fact filled by God the Son, as Pure Awareness. Jesus ascended into heaven to fill all things!
How else can anyone surrender their life to the Living God in us, their inner Lord of their hearts, if their own catalysts for living as separate persons are not addressed and dealt-with appropriately? This is why in 2 Corinthians 10:6 we find: 'Every thought is taken captive, to make it obedient to Christ."
Paul is talking about having the 'direct understanding' that thoughts can be seen to be images or reflections of knowledge that are all filled by the Light of Christ (consciousness). In this wisdom, they lose direction and power over the one (witness) who observes them, for Christ as the Light of all things, is also in us individually. His method is the "inner fasting" of the ego of its life-blood and this is what Paul meant that: 'he died each day." The awareful state is like a death to the personality, but it is nevertheless, very much alive and full of bliss.
Oh how bright 'The Amen' must be truly be for 'He is the faithful and true Witness, the beginning of the creation of God.' (Rev 3:14) He is the Almighty Word of God Who was and is and is to come and Whose Glorious Name is: "IAM."
Isaiah 58:6 defines "fasting" as follows: "To loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke."
Yokes are personal attachments or identifications burdened by desire, fear, insecurities and wrong beliefs!
Isaiah 58:13-4 also talks of personal surrender at this subtle level, including 'the non speaking of our own words" while honouring the Holy One:
"If you turn away your foot (desire) from doing your pleasure on My holy day; and call the Sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord honourable; and shall honour Him, not doing your own ways, nor finding your own pleasure, nor speaking your own words; then you will delight yourself in the Lord and I will cause you to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father."
In your awareness (soul) of Awareness (Soul), where there is perfect stillness, in the absence of thought and identifications, God is known as the inner Support and Light: "Be still and know that I am God."
Psalm 130:6 places a double emphasis on this truth through a simile with the dawning light of the morning, as follows: "My soul waits for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning."
Give His Fullness its due recognition, do not try to put Christ into conceptual boxes that limit Him to that of a human manifestation only, for that is also imagery and idolatry. He is much more than that, He is the Son of God!
"Watch/guard" the gifts of Spirit, the seed of faith, the holy anointing that the Lord has entrusted to you, for you do not know when He will come; 'watch also so that the thief cannot enter into your (inner) house and take an advantage over you."
'Jesus does not show regard to the persons of men" and thus, be aware that although 'many are called, only a few will be chosen." (Matthew 22:14-24:42)
Hold fast onto the holy ground Jesus has already won back for you, stand in readiness with the sword of God's Word to protect your household from the attacks of evil whilst building walls around your city (abode) of peace. Ephesians 6:10-14 talks of this.
All our spiritual weapons are for defensive purposes alone because the Lord of Hosts will do what needs to be done for us offensively. Even the Book of Revelation stresses this point eg. "That which ye have already hold fast till I come" (2:25); "Be watchful and strengthen the things that remain that are ready to die" (3:2); Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch I will come on thee as a thief" (3:3); "Behold I come quickly, hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown." (3:11)
When the Jews rebuilt the temple and the surrounding walls around Jerusalem (City of Peace) this defensive posture was clearly demonstrated.
Know that the Lord Himself is our inheritance, Jesus told Martha that 'He is the resurrection (in us) and the life.' - Hallelujah!
If the subtle, causal or spiritual level is not tackled adequately, one will generally find that he or she will revert back to their old selfish ways, even just after offering themselves to God during a religious service. How many times must one offer themselves, without doing something concrete like 'completely letting-go" in His Light (Christ), to bring it about? : 'By gaining his life a man will lose it; by losing his life for My sake (Witness), he will gain it." -"To receive you (a disciple of the Holy Witness) is to receive Me, and to receive Me is to receive the One Who sent Me." Matthew 10:39
Overcoming one's lower nature (one's false personality), is the true test of faith, (Revelation 21:7) and Isaiah 58:9 summarises three major fallacies of mankind as being - our yoke to the physical body; the compulsion to identify with action; and speaking (or thinking) vanity or untruth as follows: 'Take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger and speaking vanity."
The reward for overcoming our illusions is the 'Glory of the Lord" (Isaiah 58:9) and furthermore: 'He shall possess the land and inherit My holy mountain" (Holy Witnessing Nature), Isaiah 57:13
Many spiritual practices found in the different religions and philosophies of the world are techniques, which attempt to still the mind, that is all. From that they may achieve some degree of physical, mental or emotional benefit. However, the direct way must necessarily be in the Word of God brought to the devotee's heart and enlivened by the Breath of God (Spirit). That Divine combination causes Truth to penetrate the clouds of all personal delusion and it will be that "Truth that sets us free!"
Some scholars of the Bible say that 'if our personal requests are within His Will, He will hear us." Does it not dawn on them, that whatever is in His Will, will be done anyhow? His Word will never return void. Therefore begin to recognise that even the impulses of our spiritual requests (ie. via desires and fears) which lead to our pleas or prayers are provided to each of us, as part of That Holy Will in those cases?
Even our "faith in Jesus" is His Grace for it has been measured out to us at birth, therefore what can the fool ever say, that he has given to God? (Job 41.11)
For clarification purposes, the Spirit has given me the following insight in relation to the answering of prayer: the Lord 'hears and fulfils prayer" which arises from within His Own Will for example, requests that arise from one's intellect are generally related to selfish interests, but those that arise from deep within one's heart are generally expressions of the Divine Will Itself, manifested for the glory of the witnessing nature of creation (the Word) by the Holy Spirit. Sometimes in these situations our hopes, requests and pleas are but confirmations of what the Lords plan is already for us, so that we can know His Will for us.
God seeks glory, joy and pleasure in us and we should not be seeking personal pleasure or power through Him, but only to serve, honour and love Him with all our beings, thirsting to be awakened in His likeness.
If one is not deeply rooted in Christ in himself, he will invariably be easily offended and will fail when tribulation or persecution comes his way, because of the Word," (Matthew 13:21). Therefore, "Take root downwards and bear fruit upwards." Isaiah 37:31
Avoid living in the shallowness of mind which is allegorised as stony places, where seeds of wisdom from His Word cannot be securely fastened nor thrive in thin layers of soil. That mind is worldly, it is generally all relative to the flesh. Let it direct you inwards to its Source.
The good or holy ground of Truth is Pure Awareness that is clear of all thorns and thistles, ie. representing worldly cares of the person and the deceitfulness of material riches. These things choke wisdom. (Matthew 13:23)
Matthew 13:44, says, 'The Kingdom of God is like a treasure hidden in the field (mind). This treasure is the 'Heart of one's heart or the very life of our empirical existence." The good man knows how to bring-forth good things from it, whereas, the evil man only brings forth evil things, from it." (Matthew 12:35)
Pure Consciousness like the sun in our own solar system is impartial and enlivens all things. If one allows the many idols of attachments and identifications to rule their place of abode (land), then out of his heart-centre will proceed, evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornication, thefts, false witness, blasphemies which will defile him.
Be very careful, one's own speech or words reflects his inner condition and they will either 'justify or condemn" him, (Matthew 12:35-14:20).
By the time thoughts and emotions are expressed as speech, the personality has been firmly committed. Speech has been compared to a tiny rudder that can steer the largest of ships.
Pick-up your crosses and follow Christ's Light within, dedicate all thoughts back to the Sky of His Nature, surrender all feelings that He has given to you, back-to Him and all those very foods will be sanctified, before they actually feed or nourish you in the spiritual sense.
The key to gaining the fruit of Eternal Life is to recognise all things as being God's Divine Nature alone and this Truth is Eternal and in keeping with His Holy Word. In that place there is no room for one's old self.
The portal to the kingdom of God's universal consciousness (Christ in all things) is through one's own witnessing nature, into the underlying unmodified Awareness or Consciousness that is without any forms. How else can a seeker find the Lord's Glorious All Pervasive Face of Love, if it is not 'here and now' as opposed to some future time or place which must also be manifested in one's awareness of "now":
"Let him follow me; and where I am, there also shall my servant be." John 12:26
