The stage following the one of The Fool is the one represented by The Wheel Of Fortune.

I also call it Unconsciousness.

The Wheel symbolises our fate. It rotates and rotates most of the times without control. One moment we are on top of it, the other we are under it. You can never tell what your destiny will be, when under the influence of this parody. That is why I call it Unconsciousness.

Most of the men are still in this state of spiritual evolution. They have not yet reached the required consciousness of their lives, in order to control their our destiny and follow the path of enlightenment.

They live an existence of suffer because of their partial ignorance and emptiness and therefore they are still under the influence of the Karmic laws. These are nothing but the principles by which a consequence or a reaction follows one person's action or behaviour.

Here I will analyse the Buddhist point of view. In this stage we suffer. To born, to grow old, to die, to feel pain, not to possess what we want, are all related to anxiety and are all causes of suffer. This is the first noble truth.

The second noble truth of Buddhism points as the cause of anxiety and therefore of suffering, desire. The desire related to pleasure, seeking joy here and there, coveting something, the desire to exist and not to exist.

Given this, the third noble truth is comprehensible. It explains the cessation of suffer, which corresponds to the cessation of the desire in us.

There is also a fourth noble truth, which is the path to follow in order to achieve the cessation of suffer.

I should point out though that desire does not have anything to do with Love, which in Buddhism I interpret as the Compassion. It is unconditional and does not cause suffer.

Still relating to Buddhism, we constantly reincarnate, life after life, while we do not pass this stage. This is once again illustrated by the rotational movement of the Wheel, which we do not, I repeat, have consciousness of.

When we acquire the consciousness, we proceed to the next stage: The Magician.

Once again, concerning the numerical reasons at the base of this arcanum, I must refer that the value 10, in a sense, equals the value 1 of The Magician. Therefore both become an axis: the axis of normal life (not enlightened). Further explanation can be found associated with other stages.
