THE GENESIS OF GANZ
GANZ emerged from a series of meetings between November 1996 and September 1998 involving representatives of training centres across Australia and New Zealand, representatives of existing centres, local associations and networks and individuals from the gestalt therapy community. Since being ratified as an Association for Gestalt Therapy and Practice by approximately 80 people who attended the AGM in Perth, during September 1998 GANZ has focuses on putting into place those necessary building blocks for it to be a democratic, inclusive and representative, community- and professionally-based body.
OBJECTIVES
GANZ is a representative and inclusive professional association whose objects are:-
The study and advancement of Gestalt Therapy, its furtherance as a distinctive specialty based on psychology and the advancement of the philosophy, theory and research of the Gestalt approach, its therapeutic practice and broader applications for human and environmental well being.
PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATION
GANZ has applied for membership of the Psychotherapists and Counsellors Federation of Australia (PACFA) whose purpose is to establish professional standards of training and practice. GANZ training standards, membership criteria and code of ethics are established to meet PACFA requirements.

MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES
Student member category comprises those who are enrolled in a GANZ accredited training program or equivalent.
Member category comprises those who graduate from a GANZ accredited course after August 1 1999. It also comprises those who have completed their training prior to August 1 1999 and who become eligible for membership under the grandparent clause.
College member category comprises those who have completed their training in excess of the minimum standards, or equivalent. It also comprises those who have completed their training prior to August 1 1999 and who become eligible for membership under the grandparent clause.
GRANDPARENT CLAUSE
Membership of GANZ (member category) will also be granted to those who have completed their training prior to 1999 and who satisfy certain criteria. Details are included in the accompanying Membership Information Sheet.
Applications can be made under the grandparent clause until August 1 2001.
HOW GANZ IS STRUCTURED
GANZ is managed by a council which is made up of state/country representatives, student representatives and the chairpersons of five committees.
