Here are some of our gallant team before the start, in Queen Elizabeth 2 Square, at the bottom of Auckland's Queen Street. The historic Ferry Building is at the rear, and the harbour is behind that. |
Here we are at the start line. Laura (Costa Rica) is wearing the sunglasses, and in blue at left is host brother James, also with sunglasses. Then there is Teppo (Finland), and host sister Christa is in the front, with hat. Host Mum Sandra is hidden behind Christa. In pink behind Teppo is Karen (Paraguay), and behind/left of Karen, with blonde hair, is Marja (Finland). |
Heading out of town! Almost at the front of between 70,000 and 100,000 people (estimates vary) are Karen, in pink, with Marja just right of her. |
Another crowd scene, leaving the city behind. Karen and Marja are there, if you know where to look, and the rest of the team too, but kind of hard to find!! |
90 minutes later, and 8.4 km along the road! Here we are at St Heliers bay, and safely behind the Finish line are Laura, James and Teppo. The others are not far away. |
