Here's an article from the
Waiuku and Districts Post, 19th March 2002, submitted by Dee Keys:
"Annick Hervot, a 17-year-old student from
Costa Rica, came to Waiuku in early December for a two-month stay as an
AFS exchange student.
"She was hosted by the Keys family of Glenbrook
and made lots of new friends in Waiuku.
"It was a wonderful experience for all
concerned. When Annick left in early February she described her stay
as 'the best time of my life.'
"She found New Zealand a beautiful country
and very different to her city home. A new experience for Annik was
camping on a trip with her host family around the Coromandel and East Cape.
"Daniel Keys, who spent the year 2000 in
Costa Rica on an AFS exchange, enjoyed haveing a host sister to speak Spanish
with. she knew all about the country and people he'd gron to love
in his year away.
"Emma Keys found it great to have a sister
to share the summer holidays with. The two girls, who were exactly
the same age, became firm friends. Emma has been accepted to be an
AFS exchange student and is going to spend the year 2003 in Guatemala.
She is hoping very much to meet with Annick and her family then.
In the meantime they keep in close and frequent contact by email.
"AFS is a voluntary organisationwith about
50 member countries and offers intensive (two-month), semester (six-month)
and one-year exchange programmes. it is a valuable life experience
for both the exchage student and the host family." |
