There is an appropriate time to do it yourself and there are times not to. It is a shame to pay for something twice because the job was not done correctly or safely the first time. The professional spends his life learning safe practices and the electric codes in order to be able to do his job both efficiently and safely. The picture to the right is a GFI receptacle that was shorted out and created so much heat it melted. Because it was in a properly installed box, it was contained and did not pose the risk of starting a fire. |

To the left is one of those nightmares that we come across every once in a while. Somebody needed a wirenut, so they constructed one out of duct tape and the cap off a marker. How long would would it hold up if the connection came loose and starting arcing? These and other homemade contraptions are what contribute to house fires. | |||||||||||
