Soldier's Story

Cassidy Melczak

Soldier walks in forest row
Hunting friends so watch your back
Hunting in wind, rain, or snow
Willing warriors ready to attack

Weapons loaded
Eyes grow dim
Ammo waits ready
Hunter's face is grim

A snap from behind
Hunter spins 'round
The field is clear
Was an animal falling to ground

Surprise! A shot rings out
The soldier falls quickly
Shots rain from above
All 'cause of a broken stick

"I'm hit!" the soldier cries
The firing slows off
The soldier shakes his clothes
His killer begins to scoff

"Ha!" he laughs
"You lost this fight
Go home and walk off"
He smiles in delight

The soldier rubs
His wounded arm
Friendly soldier
Wishes him no harm

Paint ball, here
Was the game to play
Live again
To fight another day

The winner walked off
Bearing a mischievous grin
"If you asked me real nice
Next time I'll let you win."

I wrote this one while listening to a conversation on paintball. It was during a church dinner, and right when I got done a whole bunch of people wanted me to read it for them.
