Honegar

From Cyrena

It took awhile to get this sent out because I wanted to post the article by Edain McCoy.

"Honegar: A European Magical Tonic". I have used Honegar for years and was terribly excited when I found this article. Also I tended to

make only a jar at a time and I use my microwave to heat it up enough to mix the honey and vinegar together (always during a Full Moon).

If you dislike the taste as much as I do, in the article she mixes it with water or tea (YUK), I mix mine with orange juice. When I make orange juice for the whole family I will mix about a cupful of Honegar into it. It will make your orange juice a little sweeter and a little more tart. If you already have a cold, I suggest you mix up the pitcher of orange juice with Honegar and take a glass full four times a day. Otherwise a glassful a day will help keep the colds away!!

Honegar: A European Magical Tonic by Edain McCoy

Honegar, a blend of raw honey and cider vinegar, is a general tonic for health and vigor which is still used throughout Western Europe today. In

rural Germany, it can even be bought from the local apothecary. Its origins in history are foggy, but many believe that the brew grew out of a

combination of natural medicinal practices and Pagan religious beliefs.

In Europe, honey has long been associated with personal stamina, sexuality, and boosting of the immune system. Cider vinegar and its apple juice

prototypes were associated with healing and purification, the apple being sacred to many European goddesses. Modern medical evidence supports the view that vinegar has the ability to wash impurities from the body, particularly

from the kidneys and urinary tract.

Drinking as little as a scant quarter cup a day is thought to promote general health and longevity. This recipe should make enough doses for two

people for thirty days:

1 1/2 pounds raw honey

32 ounces apple cider vinegar

A large non-metal pan, at least a six-quart size

6 sterilized, standard-sized canning jars or other heat resistant containers with snug lids

Place honey and vinegar into the pan and stir over medium heat. Do not stop stirring, and be sure to get the spoon well into the bottom of the pan to bring up the heavy honey which will settle there. As the mixture warms, the heavy feeling will begin to lighten and you will get the feel of the ingredients blending together.

After about 10 minutes (the timing will vary depending upon calibration of your stove), the Honegar should be blended thoroughly enough to remove from the heat.

Allow the solution to cool for about thirty minutes, giving it a stir every now and then. With a funnel, drain the Honegar into sterilized containers and seal. It will keep for up to six weeks when refrigerated.

Magickal folk usually like to charge and bless their Honegar under the Full Moon or a midday Sun before using. To do this, simply take the jars

outdoors, or to an open window, and hold them up where you can feel the light of the Sun/Moon flowing into the solution. Channel the blessings of the heavenly body, and the deities it represents, filling the jars.

Drink a quarter cup of your charged Honegar each day to help sustain good health, youth and stamina. If you find the taste of the straight Honegar unpleasant, it can be blended into a glass of water or tea.
