The goal of Pemberton Secondary School is to help all students
achieve and to help them develop
the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to become a happy
and productive member of society.
Today's Secondary Schools must try to bridge the gap between the
ever changing world of work
and school. As a result, programs and the way they are delivered
must also adapt to the changing
world.
PSS Technology Education program has both a theory and hands-on
component. It takes some of
the theory learned in math and science and applies it to student
projects. Students are then able to
observe these principles at work. A popular unit is engineering.
Once the relevant theory has been
covered, students build scaled models and their designs are then
tested.
Other programs offered in the school range from English and Science
to Fine Arts and Applied Skills.
At PSS career programs combine academic foundation studies, selected
studies in a career area,
and related work experience for senior students. PSS offers three
career programs:
·Accelerated Secondary Apprenticeship Program.
·Career Preparation
·Co-op Program
The Pemberton Secondary School believe that the role of the school
is to develop citizens who have
the attitudes, knowledge, skills, and work habits that are compatible
with the needs of our society.
With this in mind, the school goals are:
1.To prepare students intellectually, academically and vocationally
so they have the prerequisites
for post-secondary training or the skills needed to join the work
force. This process should
include teaching acquisition of information, thinking and decisions
making skills, life skills, job
specific skills, and relevance of knowledge and skills to students
2.To enable students to learn positive attitudes toward physical
fitness, to learn health and
recreational skills that will help them to make decisions toward
healthful living, and to
understand that physical health leads to emotional health.
3.To help students develop personal qualities which will enable
them to live happily as
individuals as well as a part of society: self-awareness leading
to a positive self-concept,
self-respect and self-confidence; curiosity and a love for learning;
satisfaction from
accomplishment; and tolerance, understanding and respect for others.
