Life as a student at Howe Sound Secondary is much more than attending
classes and learning new
subjects. It's about being part of a community; a part of the
largest school in District #48, with well
over 800 students enrolled in Grades 8 through 12. HSSS is always
changing, adapting and offering
new programs to meet student and community needs.
New program offerings give students exposure to areas they may
not otherwise experience in
secondary schools.
Academically, Howe Sound Secondary continues to produce solid
achievers. Students have
represented the school at the University of B.C.'s Science Fair.
Howe Sound's Fine Arts class has
made some major productions and the Band class has traveled to
Calgary to perform.
Outside the classroom, HSSS offers Athletic and Fine Arts programs
second to none. The Curling
and Track & Field teams both made the BC Provincial finals.
The Senior Boys Basketball team is
currently ranked #1 in the North Shore League, and is expected
to make the provincial finals. Many
students take part in athletic programs, making new friends and
developing new skills in the
process.
At HSSS career programs combine academic foundation studies, selected
studies in a career area,
and related work experience for senior students. HSSS offers four
career program options:
·Accelerated Secondary Apprenticeship Program
·Career Preparation Programs (20 career areas)
·Co-op Education
·30 hr. Career-related Experience
At HSSS the staff are committed to keeping pace with change and
to responding effectively to
students and community needs.
