I-Poly is located on the campus of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona). Administered under the Los Angeles County Office of Education, the school uses an integrated curriculum where students work individually and in groups on projects.
For example, during the 1998-1999 school year, juniors were creating a colony on Mars. In English, they read scientific articles and fiction stories about space travel and Mars and wrote reports; in Math they worked equations they could applly to fuel consumption and distances; in social sciences classes, they studied various earth societies and incorporated what they learned into their own Martian society.
