I’m closer to Blackie now. Her bark is louder.
Finally she jumps up on my legs and I grab her and make a quick run because I am concious that the roof could collapse on me and kill our family dog. It seems like the way out is a treacherous run through the jungle with a wild tribe chasing behind me with spears.
Okay, I’m out. Blackie jumps off and Fireman Jon says, "Quick, you have enough time to get one item. But hurry, it’s going quick." I try to make a run again but he grabs my arm and yells, "one item!"
He loosens his grip and they’re out of sight.
Now when I get in, the cloud is so thick I have to crawl around. Alright, I’m in my mom’s room. I reach under the bed and grab our emergency luggage. They are kind of heavy. But it’s only normal. It does contain canned foods, blankets, matches and flashlights. I hang one of them around my neck and carry the other. With all this weight on me, I won’t be able to crawl, I will have to run. Running means standing up. But if I stand up the cloud of smoke will kill me. Now I’m wetting a cloth with water and covering my head and nose.
Bang!! The roof is collapsing in all the other rooms. It’s time to run. I try to go through the living room but the carpet is on fire. I have to think fast.
The kitchen! Surely enough it’s safer than the living room. I drop to the ground as soon as I was out the door. I need air.
From there I just lost it. Now I’m sitting in the ambulance getting oxygen. But I feel good! Real good! I’m a hero. I have saved my family and we’re all okay.
