MAID OF FIFE-I-O

There once was a troop
of Irish Tragoons
who came marching down through Fife-i-o
and the Captain fell in love
with a bonnie Irish Lass
and her name, she was called pretty Peggy-O

There's many a bonnie lass
in the town of Achternglaust
there's a bonnie lassie in Tucheri-o
there's many a bonnie Jean in the streets of Aberdine
but the flower of them all is in Fife-i-o

Oh come down the stairs pretty Peggy my dear
come down the stairs pretty Peggy-o
Oh, come on down the stairs - comb back your yellow hair hair
bid a long farewell to your mommy-o

Oh I never did intend a soldiers lady for to be
I never will marry a soldier-o
I never did intend to go to a foreign land
no I never will marry a soldier-o

The Colonel he cried "Mount!Mount, Mount boys - Mount!" The Captain he cried Tarry-o!
Now tarry for a while
for another day or twa
While I see if this bonnie lass will marry-o

Long ere we came to the town of Achternglaust
wehad our captain to carry-o
and lang ere we reached the streets of Aberdine
we had our captain to bury-o

Green grow the birchs
on bonnie Ethans side
and low lie the low lands of Fife-i-o
Our Captains name was Ned
and he died for a maid
he died for the chamber maid of Fife-i-o

There's many a bonnie lass in the town of Achternglaust
there's many a bonnie lassie in Tucher-i-o
there's many a bonnie Jean in the streets of Aberdine
but the flower of them all lives in Fife-i-o
