The Platform of Christian Social Order
by Joseph Kasuboski
Since this is the first issue of Christian Social Order, it is important to assert the ideals of this journal right from the very beginning. So many times, it can seem as though various forms of media only have ideals which are for sale to the highest bidder.
That is not to be the case with Christian Social Order. Instead, this journal's goal is to put forward the ideals of our Lord Jesus Christ regarding the various elements of the social order, and according to the Bible's own doctrine, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. If this is true, then the basic ideals of this journal can change only in ways which will help to bring it into greater conformity with Jesus Himself.
What follows, is a brief exposition of the ideals of this journal.
- God knows best: Humanity must never assume that it knows better than the creator of all humanity, as well as of the Universe. That God knows best must be the first principle of this exposition because God can see everything as it is meant to be, and as it is. What follows from this is that God's way is best, and that if all humanity were to follow it, the shape of the world would be much more pleasant for everyone. Involved in this also is a simple matter of God's own rights. Any society which fails to consider the rights of God will eventually destroy itself.
- Love: This does not mean those warm, fuzzy, romantic feelings that people are capable of having for one another. Instead, it refers to the ability to make sacrifices for the eternal good of another as is expressed in the Gospels, and other scriptural writings. Anything which is consistent with this, we uphold, and anything which is not, we reject.
- Truth: This does not refer to something which is changeable, but rather something which can not change because it does not rely on cultural practices, but rather is something which simply is the way it is because God made it that way. For example, cheating something is always wrong because it is inconsistent with Love, and because it is against the dignity of God's creation of Man and Woman in His own image. This is something which will never change, because it will always be true even if society says that it is O.K.
-
The Dignity of Human Life: God created life out of nothing. When Science "creates" it in the lab, it is using the basic building blocks of life that already exist. Therefore, since life is something which only God can bestow, it is something that only God can take away.
-
Slavery, in any form, is wrong: What is meant by this, is that a person should be able to support his or her family with one job, and should not have to work more than forty hours per week to do so.
-
Wealth should be more evenly distributed: Certain jobs require a certain amount of risk, and should be duly compensated, but for a person to make more than one million dollars a year, and for his lowest paid employee to make less than $25,000 per year while still trying to support a family also fails to distribute the wealth of society in a way that allows each of these people to live their proper dignity as human beings. Notice here that there is an extreme difference between the highest paid and the lowest paid.
