Deep Dead Blue is a seven-song
collaboration with guitarist Bill Frisell. It is taken from a June 25,
1995 live performance at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall during that
year's Meltdown Festival, for which Elvis served as artistic director.
An eighth song, "Poisoned Rose," was included in the concert but omitted
from the official release.
It is unknown whether Rhino intends to incorporate this material into a
future release, although it could conceivably be part of the "artier things" collection. Another, perhaps more
far-fetched, possibility is that it could be part of a more ambitious
"Live at Meltdown" release, drawing from the 50 or so other songs Elvis
performed with various ensembles during the festival.
