Laundromat

You have decided to come to the laundromat on a whim.  You have a small amount of clothing that you could wash.  You're not likely to find much here, but it's worth a try.  Besides, when people are doing their laundry, they get bored.  Maybe one would tell you about the history of the town.

The laundromat is almost empty, except for a young lady who is just about to leave, and a middle aged man in jeans and a white shirt who is waiting on some clothes in a dryer.  As you start to load your clothing in the washer, you hear the young lady calling "Good-bye Mr. Jacobson!"  Mr. Jacobson? Could this man be the mayor?  How could you find out?  After thinking it through awhile, you come up with a plan...  you ask him!

"Hello there" you say "Are you mayor Jacobson?"

"Yes"  he answers with a smile.  "What is your name?"

You instantly warm up to this personable man, and soon he's telling you about the sights to see at Branchville.  As he is describing the Museum, you take the opportunity to ask him to tell you a bit of town history.  He only pauses a minute, and soon he's telling you about the people who made the town a tourist town.

He tells you of the Morgan family who had lived in the area even before it was called Branchville.  They were a wonderful family, who, except for one daughter, loved the Lord, and were all Christians.  They started an information shop, in the 50's, with interesting facts about some of the buildings. They started it in what is now the museum, but soon had more artifacts than information, so they started another smaller souvenir shop and turned the museum over to the town.  The shop flourished, and others decided they liked the idea of a tourist town.  Soon many people had either shops, or historical sites.

He pauses, then seeing that his dryer load is not done yet, he goes on.  He tells you that soon after that, the Morgan family apparently left town.  All but the one daughter, that is.  To this day, no one but the daughter knows what happened, or where they went.  Anticipating your next question, the mayor tells you that the daughter only says the family had a disagreement with her, and decided to leave.  Police even looked into the possibility of foul play, but since all their belongings had disappeared with them, and there were no signs of trouble, there was nothing more they could do.

His dryer load done now, he quickly folds them and puts them in his basket.  He gives you a quick invitation to his church, and big smile, then he's gone...  leaving you to think about all the information he's given you.  Why does he openly tell you about some of the past of the town?  As you ponder that question, you realize, he's not told you that much.  Just bits and pieces.  You hope you can find enough bits to piece the clues together into something that makes sense.
