Town Hall

You have come to the mayor's office.  Mayor Jacobson isn't in right now, but you look around the room to try to get a feel for who he is.  The room is tastefully decorated, showing you he has a good sense of color and style.  On the walls are pictures of the town, mingled with Christian plaques.  The desk, though not completely immaculate, is quite organized.  All in all, the room is very neat and clean.

You are especially drawn to a photo on the wall of the local graveyard.  It is a view, from the air, of the whole graveyard.  You can see a bit of the park to the East, and part of the grocery store's parking lot to the South.  Though many of the stones in the cemetery are ornate and fancy, you notice a small section in a corner that has very small plain stones.  Could this be a clue as to the secret that Branchville hides?

While waiting for the mayor to return, you glance at his desk.  On it, you notice a paper sticking out of a file folder.  All you can see are these words:  ... suspicious activities... could be dangerous!  Of course, knowing what you do about Branchville, you wonder immediately if the mayor has been made aware of Lucy Fire's covert activities.

As you are looking around, you are surprised to see a woman standing in the doorway.  You discover that she is the secretary, and she's not pleased that you've walked in here.  She grabs up the file folder and holds it close to her as she scolds you.  She yells that you have no business walking into the mayor's office like that.

She points toward the door and you exit the office.  As you walk through the empty reception area, you glance back at her.  Instead of following you out right away, she stayed in the office (probably assuming that her ranting had scared you far away by now).  You see her open the file you had seen on the mayor's desk.  As she looks it over, a shocked expression comes across her face.  Filled with new courage, you ask her "What's wrong?"

Startled, she tries to close the file and hide it behind her at the same time.  Naturally, she doesn't get it closed before she turns it sideways, and it's contents flutter down around her feet.  She frantically grabs the papers and puts them back in the folder, while you chuckle at her fright.

Once the folder is safely back on the mayor's desk, she motions for you to step closer.  She quickly checks the room, and upon seeing it empty, she grabs you by the shirt.  With an evil glint in her eyes, she calmly assures you that if you tell ANYONE what she was doing, you'll not live another 24 hours.  When you remind her that you could tell someone about her threat and get police protection, she smiles and says; "It won't matter.  There are certain forces that cannot be stopped... and I'll have an alibi."

As you are leaving, you wonder why a man as nice and kind as Mayor Jacobson would have such a evil secretary.
