Activities:

  1. Ghost footprints-Help trace one of the student’s footprints on a sheet of white paper. Outline this with black crayon and cut it out. Turn the heel up and draw the face.

  2. I make a bat for the students to trace
  3. We make bat headbands. The students color a sentence strip black for the band. They can use the bat they traced or I have a bat color sheet they can color and cut out for the front of the headband.
  4. We sort bats by whether they are mega or micro bats.
  5. During my development part of the lesson, I teach the students content information on cats and bats.
  6. Make a bat mask.

  7. We make witches to hang from the ceiling. A triangle for the hat, circle for the face, triangle for the dress, skinny rectangles for arms and legs, and triangle for boots.
  8. Witch’s Brew- Put lime sherbert in a bowl and pour ginger ale over the sherbert. You get witch’s brew to drink. It bubbles and bubbles!
  9. Cat cookies-Using 1/2 oreo cookie, put icing on and then use canycorn for ears, m and m’s for nose and eyes, and I take icing and make whiskers.
  10. Monster Cookies-take gingerbread man cookies and put icing on and then let the children decorate with candy, etc.
  11. Monster Toast-You will need milk, food coloring, a toaster, bread, butter, and a paint brush. Pour the milk in a cup. Add food coloring-make the milk paint brightly colored. Paint a monster on the bread with the milk paint. Next toast the bread. After bread pops up, lightly butter and munch your monster. (Idea from Cathy k/pa)
  12. Estimate candy corns
